Benchmark expectations

Folks,

I have been playing War Thunder tanks for several years and have played across three platforms(High end mac, Dell XPS/Nvidia Card 1050 and now new Dell XPS/Nvidia 4050). I have run benchmark consistently across these platforms and use it as one factor when judging game performance. I typically run tank battle benchmark with low graphics. Don’t recall the results of the Mac benchmark but that would have been 8 years ago. With my first Dell XPS I thought it was like rating of 14K/FPS 400? but then it changed to something significantly less in the last 3 years or so. Game was still very
playable but I didn’t know if the scale or results were changed. My internet download/upload speed is 300 Gb+. I got new Dell XPS with Nvidia 4050. I have set that card to default in settings. I ran the benchmark test and the results were average FPS 119.6, minimum 119.6 & rating 7450. Is there any links or documentation that better describes benchmark results and any other settings we should be setting to maximize the benchmark test score? Personally, I thought these numbers would be higher but that perspective is meaningless when I don’t know what a good score is or not for my platform and do I have all the appropriate settings that could impact that score. PC came pre-loaded with McAfee. I typically just have MS Defender running. Would McAfee have any negative impact on PC? Should I disable? Does running the benchmark test really carry any weight as to judging performance?

If your display is a 120hz refresh, it sounds like you could have vsync on.

Thanks for response & suggestion but vsync is off.

I think I did the benchmark, and it set my graphics to movie, so I went through with nVidia Experience and went into the profile in there, custom option, and tweaked it back a couple of notches to performance.

i think that it is some type of cpu bottelneck or something to do with your drivers because even with a 3080 on near max graphics and a few extra game filters using the geforce experience app (alt + z) im getting scores of 8500 on a relatively “old” rig

McAfee is useless now days, I would remove it. Don’t know about McAfee impact on your system but if you want some security better than McAfee - Malwarebytes or ESET internet security.

In game benchmark is not the best tool. Try to run Valley Benchmark(Is Free) in your maximum resolution x8 Ultra and post your results here. We than can workout how your PC is doing in terms of performance.
Naked human eye rarely can see over 80 FPS- you should cap FPS in Nvidia Ctrl Panel. Most of the time any FPS over 80 are waste of power and generating heat in your GPU with no visual impact what so ever.
