So I have been tinkering in the “protection analysis” screen for the battle pass T-44 (you can do this by clicking the “preview” button featured on the battle pass picture if that makes sense) and I think I must be confused about the armor/ “bounciness” of the T-44.
My expectations for the T-44 were pretty high seeing as … well it’s a T-44. It’s a WWII era Russian tank that is supposed to be considerably more “dense” or well protected than even T-34’s. But when I run a protection analysis I am shocked that even 5.0 tanks produce a green reticle pretty much all over the surface of the tank.
Here’s some examples.
A rank III ASU-57 produces a decent amount of green reticles when moving the cursor over the tank but nothing crazy. If the T-44 is angled it should fair well.
Okay now for a 4.3 SU-152:
Green reticles ALL ALONG the turret cheeks even when angled.
4.7 jagdpanzer:
Decent amount of green reticles - again a ton across the turret cheeks even when angled but nothing too extreme.
Okay let’s move up
5.3 Nashorn: Green reticles everywhere. All across not only the turret cheeks but also the hull of the tank even when angles. Even at rather extreme angles the Nashorn is doing excellent damage at 1 full BR lower. Not necessarily extreme but maybe just a little surprising.
5.7 Tiger H: Again, no problems from head on and one shotting the T-44 through the mantlet. At an angle the turret cheeks are pretty much all green.
In conclusion, I’m not here to suggest that the T-44 is a crappy tank. We haven’t even put it up against live competition yet of course. Ultimately, I’m just wondering how it will hold up with such a conspicuouos weak spot in the turret cheeks despite having good armor elsewhere.
Seeing as this is a battle pass vehicle that will be accessible to anyone who grind it out - and that it’s weak spot can’t be accounted for by angling, it seems to me it could get “figured out” and prove underwhelming rather quickly.
What am I getting wrong? I want to keep the motivation for grinding the battle pass.
