Current Issue
The current state of Research Points storage in a maxed-out tech tree is poor, to say the least.
Once you obtain every vehicle in a tech tree and have an ace crew, any RP you receive from a battle is classified as “Overflow” in the mission results.
These “Overflow” Research Points are sent directly to convertible RP but serve no other purpose. The only way to use these is to spend GE.
This can make people less interested in that Tech Tree or even the game overall.
Suggestion
I suggest introducing a feature in which the “Overflow” Research Points you obtain are stored in a “Bank.” This way, you collect your RP over time. Then, when a major update is released with a vehicle from that tech tree in which you “Banked” your research points, you can use the RP towards a new vehicle when it is released.
Variations of Implementation
Varient #1
The first variant I came up with has a drop-down or section for the “Bank” that can be found right by the convertible RP and the Battle Pass. It should look roughly like this. (Note: The exact icon of the bank doesn’t hold significance; I just couldn’t photoshop and design a new one.)
You should be able to click on the “Bank” icon to access a section that looks very similar to the GE or Premium time section as it fits in with the other Icons, and that’s what I based it off of. There are columns at the top that represent the different types of vehicles. On the far left, there are columns for the countries, but I didn’t include all of them for sizing purposes. For countries that you have every vehicle, there will be several research points(They are all the same for demonstration purposes). If you don’t have the vehicles researched, it should either be grayed out or have the text that is visible on the USA column. You can see the diagraph in the image below.
Varient #2
The second variant I came up with has fewer sections and “moving parts” but still simply displays the “banked” research points. This variation can and likely should be implemented with variant number one. This version has the number of research points visible on the hanger screen next to a bank icon. For demonstration purposes, I placed the icons in several ideal locations around the tech tree to show all of the different places that it could go. This will work with all tech trees and nations. If you don’t have all of the vehicles researched, this simply will not appear for you, making it nice and simple. I also included a diagram below.
Potential Issues and Solutions
In hindsight, there are some issues, but I believe they can be easily addressed.
First, to prevent this feature from being overpowered, a deduction could be implemented in which you only receive 70 or 80 percent of that “Overflow,” depending on the Nation, Branch, and Rank. This could prevent potential loopholes from being exploited.
Second, this should not be applied to squadron vehicles.
Third, you should not be able to use the “Overflow” bank from Ground Vehicles on the Helicopters of that tech tree unless you have the option for your RP selected as it already is in the game.
Finally, I believe that, especially for large withdraws, there should be a fee of Silver Lions, something like 5-25 Silver Lions per RP. This way, people can’t automatically get new vehicles “for free”.
Those address some potential issues, but if you find any more, please leave suggestions.
Additionally, it could be interesting to be able to apply this mechanic to be able to use “Overflow” on vehicle modifications. You shouldn’t get the bonus for finishing a tier of modifications if you use the mechanic, but it could be interesting to try out.
In conclusion, I strongly believe a feature like this should be implemented very soon, and it would make the community happier.
