BAe Sea Harrier - Technical data and discussion

We will use supernovas as flares. Will still need to drop 2 at a time however.

I do, I was however conducting a “trial”

A Gr.3 with 84% throttle and VIFF should be evenly matched with the hunter in a head on set up.

I died 9 times in a row yesterday for a total of 9 loss - 0 draw - 0 wins

It won’t be. There is a several second delay between dropping it and the flare igniting so it’s uselss as a countermeasure

Drop all of them and then hover next to them? Might help confuse the missile lol.

Brother just dont, this is a harrier thread go complain elsewhere.

Yeah, im purely talking about their sheer size and what I assume is quite a large lumonisity being suffecient to actually decoy a missile away from the Harrier in WT.

Actually being a practical method of flaring a missile in combat is another thing entirely. (Though maybe lofting them towards a battlefield before doing a low level bomb/rocket/gun run as a long duration pre-flare?)

Hello again, I have found a completely new source.

This one claims 7G at 400 knots in heavy buffet. It aligns with all 5 other sources.

Could this be passed to the devs or will it just be ignored like the 5 other previous sources.

God speed to you because watching this has been painful, I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for you after doing all this work.

Regardless of the outcome thank you for trying so hard.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

The sweep and taper of the Harrier 1 wing, found in the files.

Gaijin messed up so bad that they gave it the wrong values in aspect ratio and sweep.

As you can imagine this changes the way the wing behaves significantly.

Could we at least get this?

in a dive lol

Yes dive Mach limits.

Yet the harrier in level flight in theory is marginally supersonic when clean. You would just need to trip the limiters lol. Not very good for the engine.

But of course you cant use data mined values in bug reports.

I will second what TenguPingu said. Watching this saga has been painful. Seeing the Devs dismiss the numerous documents because they arent able to replicate it in game and not question that maybe they have something wrong somewhere but just that the documents must not be correct. I really hope to play a fixed Harrier some day so I am grateful for your attempts.

No, apparently I can’t use primary documents either.

Real life lift coefficients from BAE and the RAE? Nope.

Lift data from the operating data manual? Nope

You’ve seen so you get it. I’m 110% sure there exist no other documents that talk about lift or performance.

That’s what Smin used to “politely” say we don’t care, we are not going to fix it. (Unless you find yet another doc this conversation is over)

They even refused to accept the Energy Maneuverability chart to buff the sustained turn rate.

They claimed there was not enough thrust. Yet there is a bug report accepted that shows that 35% of the harrier thrust at high speeds is missing.

Basically what I think is the issue, it’s not a super popular plane. It’s been a total brick since day 1. Now everyone is hellbent on that being the case for the irl harrier.

Unless lots of people start complaining (F-15-SU-27-J-10-Rafale) then they will just dust it under the rug as no one notices.

Point in case
It’s been almost a year since they changed the sea harriers hud and they can’t even give it EEGS or a gunsight…

Or half a decade and it still smokes worse than the F-4 in Vietnam

wow

imma be real, i just got frs1 harrier, questioned why it doesnt have eegs on its radar, why it smokes so hard and why it feels like a brick even with nozzles pointed almost halfway down, decided to look for answers and real life specs and found this thread, not expecting just how many issues there actually are with it.

but hey, having read through some of this, all i can do is wish you luck, maybe one day all of this will make it to the devs.

but until then, i will have to fly my frs1 as it is right now, just gotta adapt to those guns ig

what have they actually said about the Smokey exhaust? is it accepted and now in purgatory or have they denied it lol?

Accepted it but after 6 years they never fixed it.

Yeah…

I wouldn’t form any opinion of the aircraft based on the abysmal garbage we have representing it in this game.

It would be rather exceptional in this game if Lift, power, and VIFF was fixed.

Compared to the best fighter of its BR (F-5E) the sea harrier if flown by a good pilot would win 9-10 times.

I would advise against playing the sea harrier unless you want to do nothing but sneak 9L attacks, and then die to the first plane that corners you.

well, i do have a habit of spading everything i fly, plus harrier is one of my favorite british planes, probably even more than the eel.

plus ive already experienced spading yak38m, so i kinda became desensitised to the suffering
