Thank you thank you been a very long time lol

Let me share (again national archives perfectly clear to share)

Same weight same plane same AOA. Missing 22,000 lbs of lift

Lastly the Shar engine RPM and ratings are changed compared to other harrier 1s meaning that there is a significant increase in thrust when using the sea harrier vs say the Gr.3

The Sea Harrier at combat speeds enjoys a 174% increase in net thrust (.6 Mach sea level) over the standard rpm of 80% (Max continuous rating or equivalent) Harrier Gr.3 has a combat RPM limit of 95.5% and post modification 2973 on the sea harrier allows the Shar to access 99% RPM in combat.

@Morvran Might recall reading in “Sea Harrier over the Falklands” Sharkey Ward recalls them installing this new plug.

Almost forgot. What the whole Sea harrier wing modification means.

The normal harrier 1 wing will buffet at 14-15 degrees AOA at the Cn buffet boundary lift boundary (the onset of exponential drag when entering buffet increasing more the harder you pull leading to a rapid loss of speed)

The Sea Harrier with its modified wing achieves a Cn of 1 at 19 degrees AOA at .6 Mach meaning the loss of speed is exponentially less when maneuvering hard at high aoa at combat speeds.

Put simply the Sea Harrier at 400 knots should only experience heavy buffet at 19 degrees AOA at 400 knots .6 mach and higher AOAs the slower you go resulting in improved energy retention when turning hard.

@Gunjob Is this something that can be reported or changed in game?

Make Sea Harrier the same FM it had on the 1st Dev server again

Nooooo thank you

That had the Gr.7 FM so it’s worse than the IRL Shar lol

@Gunjob

Just wanted to ask about the possibility of this.

Durning the development of the FRS.2 one of the original propositions was to mount 4 AMRAAM on the twin missile stores on the outer pylons.

In 1986 they actually did it in conjunction with testing the original role fit wing tips.

Later on when the FRS.2 was becoming the FA.2 the role fit wing tips where cancelled reducing the allowed stability margins and rendering the twin amraam set up not feasible.

That history aside could we get the extended combat wing tips as well as the dual amraam mounts in game?

These were flown IRL and there are pictures and docs to prove as much, I assume that meets the criteria.

Even if we have to have slightly worse flight performance. We NEED to have a SHAR that CAN actually dogfight, not these thrust bricks with little thrust because Gaijin can’t model that for shit.

So missile wing tips like on F-16s? May seem like a stupid question but I have seen people say the the type of missile mount point on Mirage 3s to be wing-tip when they are not

If we could do that then I doubt we would really need AIM-9Ms and can go 6 BOL AMRAAMS

Not wing tip missiles but twin mounted amraam.

It’s the same mount as the twin sidewinders we have in game the Indian sea harriers can mount derby missiles on there’s and the FA.2 could mount AMRAAM on them.

The role fit wingtips where 8 inch extended tips that improved handling and combat performance.

What you have in game is a conventionally flown harrier with no VIFF that’s forced to use 80% rpm

It will lose 90% of the time

Oh like the Indians mount their Derbys. I understand now. Wonder if we ever get an experimental Sea Harrier with the Harrier 2 wing. Worse performance on most metrics but the slightly better fuel efficiency and extra ordinance would make up for it. I guess that is just the Shar 3/Harrier 3 programe

Not quite it’s still got the speed and performance of the normal sea harrier just with more lift and maneuvering boundaries leading to better turn rates.

I think the main problem with the Gen 1 Shars is not the agility and maneuvarability but mostly just carrying a useful load, the Harriers reflect that somewhat in-game with only 4 usable pylons for AMRAAMs on the Shar 2

Yeah, that sort of comes from its doctrine and requirement.

But the maneuverability and most importantly for BVR missing thrust is a huge issue.

Considering you need to get up to high alt to make the amraam more effective the lack of thrust experienced is rather un helpfull in maintaining energy.

The Sea Harrier when armed with the 4 X ASRAAM or 4 X 9M becomes very dangerous when bouncing enemies at low level. Provided that it’s got its irl maneuvering capabilities.

I think if a PCB engine was taken from the P.1150 then put in a slightly upscaled Sea Harrier then the BVR problem would be almost none existent

what the hell

It’s sniffs jet fuel through the nozzles for a speed boost
