BAe Sea Harrier - Technical data and discussion

Those are all separate issues.

I have reported the EEGS issues, and the auto selection for AAM mode.

Do you want me to write reports for no CCIP/CCRP symbology for bombs or rockets on the FA2?

Also running a mix of bombs and rockets on the FRS1/FRS1e seems to break its symbology for either, but running bombs or bombs + AAMs works fine and you have full CCIP/CCRP symbology for bombs. No symbology at all for rockets (though I do wonder if that is correct)

A report for the auto selection for all modes is fine. Go for it and drop me the link.

Both the FA.2 and FRS.1 are missing vector indicators

Right…

This one might be beyond my ability to report. Because I genuinely have no idea what is going on. So i’ll try and break it all down. This is for now only the Sea Harrier FA2.

Running only bombs or bombs+AAMs means No CCIP/CCRP Symbology. Unless you open and close the menu with bombs/bomb sight mode selected . At which point it starts working fine. (doesnt do anything if in standard mode or with Aim-9ls selected). But it will sometimes stop working again after this “fix” and im not sure on the sequence of events yet

Running any loadout with a 30mm ADEN gunpod results in CCIP/CCRP working fine from the start.

then I also noticed something else.

This is the symbology it normally has when its “working”

if I press “activate target point” with an AAM selected and then change the sight mode to bomb (auto). The symbology looks like this:

(this symbology sounds far more like what Paul Tremelling decribes in his book of an “inverted T” )

So its like the FA2 is using both the FRS1 and FA2s symbology at the same time

Video of all of this:

Sea Harrier FRS1/FRS1e is also a bit… glitchy still but seems to work more consistantly. (I wonder if its because it has the guns )

The Shars HUD seems really advanced for the late 70s

Okay. So it having both forms of symbology is correct.

But here is the report for the rest of it

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/YEQ85INSQ0hZ

This I think is the FA2 which is 1993 (at least the aircraft in question in the post Gunjob responded too was the FA2)

Would the fundamentals of the 2 HUDs not be the same ?

Not necessarily.

They share alot of symbology from the few photos we have on FRS. FA2 obviously gained a huge number of new features to account for the radar and new weapons system. But alot of the basic stuff should be the same.

Pretty common, you’ll notice some carry over from the Tornado HUD to the Typhoon one.

Yeah I’ve noticed the standard flight display is actually identical between the two.

Was the ballistics computer upgraded on FA.2?

Blue Vixen was apparently very good for accurate bombing. So one would assume the FRS.1 lacked a bit in the accuracy department.

Any sources confirming Rocket symbology for either the FRS1 or FA2?

It had it once, but the 2" RP was out of service by the time of this manual, so this is all that is left.

Okay, i’ll report no Rocket symbology as well.

Combined report for FRS1/FA2? or one for each?

Yes probably was fairly primitive being based on a helicopter radar.

You can’t report it without the symbology to hand, we don’t know what it looked like so it cannot be modelled.
