The AV-8A can hit .98 Mach when clean using only Max thrust rating
The engine is capable of producing 174% more thrust at .6 Mach
They are marginally supersonic

Pretty sure that number could be reached in level flight on a cold day at sea level, at least a cold day in Bristol. The GR.1 did it with drop tanks a few years into its service/development, I mean I have a picture
1.25 is the limit
Speaking of AOA limits seeing as it was hard to find exact values.
The Harrier apparently has no ADD/AOA limitations above 7,000 feet seeing as recovery from a spin was easy but 18 degrees AOA below that.
Is there any reports in on the basic flight display of the sea harrier?
The Horizon bar doesn’t seem to follow the horizon, the Datum flight marker is usually not there. The Climb dive symbol doesn’t show flight path.
what fuel load/weight?
14 degrees sounds pretty abysmal compared to the other top tier fighters or stuff like the mig-23
75% internal fuel load 5 pylons and gun pods.
14 degrees a second is extremely impressive when you consider the low speeds it can sustain this at.
It can also very nearly match the instantaneous turn rate of the flanker.
Not really also you need to put the throttle setting at 95
I’ve tested it in game for sustained turn rates and it needs to be increased by about 1G
ah then its off by around 1-2 degrees
though I think it’s close enough by gaijin margins for it to be waved away, kinda like the f-15c turn rate buff report that didnt go through
It’s wayyyyy off that in game
Here is a very easy comparative for low speed maneuverability. A GR.3 with 2 X 100 gallon drop tanks and 2 X aim9G missiles should be able to sustain just over 3G at 233 knots (.35 Mach) with full flaps and a little bit of nozzle. This is just with the max thrust rating. Using normal lift dry it will increase the sustained G to around 4.3.
In game it will sustain about 2.25G.
The SU-30 AMK with 60% internal fuel and just 2 missiles will only sustain around 3.5-3.6 G at the same speed.
The Flanker is supposed to be the king of low speed dogfighting and its exceptional in game for this but even it should get creamed by a heavy draggy harrier with a longer combat fuel time.
Sustained G for 350 - 400 - and 475 knots
350 should be 4.6G
It should also be sustaining that 3G with just 17.5 degrees AOA too. With the ability to add 1.5G to the ITR with VIFF.
Mind you these tests where only conducted at the onset of light buffet too.
Harrier VIFF turn at an airshow.
Calculated to be 22-25 degrees per second. At 350-400 knots
so a fixed harrier 1 would be a slightly worse tvc flanker at low speed essentially?
Would be massively better. While also sustaining more G at high speed and pulling more G at altitude to get into notches better. Compared to what we have in game.
Harrier 1 also has no AOA limits it should be able to cobra even up to about 400 knots.
I do wonder though, how skilled would you have to be with the Harrier controls to take out a decent Flanker player in a dogfight and for the Flanker, vise-versa.
I am mostly think of skill ceilings and skill floors both of these aircraft, if a newer player (one that has not played this type of top tier playstyle but lots of Korean War and is highly skilled at the game) would get in them, and what they will struggle with more
That’s an excellent question.
I would say it depends. The flanker does have a large overall advantage. Staying fast and trying to take the fight up high is what the flanker needs to do.
If 2 noobs to the type where to dogfight at low altitude. I would say the flanker generally wins. Maybe 6-7/10 times.
2 experienced players of the type I would say the harrier starts to win more often. Mainly bc it can do more crazy things. If the fight gets slow the harrier can pull the nose straight up into a place no jet can follow then it can be flicked in roll and pitch into a lead pursuit and finished with a 9M. This said in the current AV-8B FM I can go just about 1 for 1 vs a better than average flanker pilot guns only.
R-73 is deadly 9M is mid.
A harrier using only guns is at a disadvantage to anything supersonic.
Harrier GR.1 would be funny tho. SRAAM plus even better flight performance would be alot of fun.
Would maybe justify its 9.7 BR. all the others I feel would be better at 10.0.
it would go higher 110%
every harrier would
