I spoke to a developer about this years ago. The answer I got back then was that the game engine didn’t like maps much bigger than 128x128. I think it was that common issue with game engines where the further you get away from 0,0 be less precise some physics calculations become, and if you get too far away, the effects start to become noticeable.
IIRC he said the issue can be solved, but it is non-trivial and back then it was deemed not worth the effort as 128 x128 was plenty big enough for props and early jets.
That said, Norway is 128x164 or something odd like that, and the empty ocean map is 256x256. So I guess it might be possible.
Yeah, and youd hope they’d work on improving the code to handle bigger maps eventually anyway.
Typhoon in 128km² maps is rather dull because you instantly get into combat with no real transit time or time to react. Even in the subsonic Shar I find the maps too small quite often.
Being a healthy amount of ocean should also help too.
The airfields could also remain 128km apart roughly fairly easily too
But in essence, there is no reason it couldn’t be done physically and the most likely answer was that BOL was added late into the FA2’s life and there was never a need for it to actually carry both/no documented proof that it did.
Gaijin’s official line for it iirc is: “If we deem it necessary then it can get the buff” or something to that affect
Considering the av 8 can carry 240cm with 6 missiles but we only get 60 with 6 or 60 plus some glitter with 4 i dont see why not? That is untill they make the flares on bol better.
But you’re forgetting something crucial. The AV8 is American and the Shar 2 is British and the only bias stronger than Russian bias is Anti-British bias. When the F47 is added then we might get a new Shar 2 or Shar 2 buff
