No, it doesn’t have HMD and it doesn’t even specify radars on the RWR, only some ground AAs.
RWR has nothing to do with ground forces IFF, but yes, it lacks HMD.
Hopefully we get the Harrier GR.9A with HMD (it’s an HMD and works as a HMS aswell, unlike the A 10Cs which is only a HMD with no missile cueing capability), new engine and better ordinance.
Harrier GR9 and Tornado GR4 use the same HMS from the Jaguar GR3, they were salvaged from the GR3’s when they left service. Its not really a HMD its more like a “HMS+”. The HMS has arrows for queuing a pilot to a marked marked target (Ground or Air). But provides no flight data or target data beyond a marker.
Symbology;
I thought it had a RWR display in a circle around a crosshair for cueing.
PS. I’m trying find the image of what I’m talking about
Believe it was from a Janes’ IDR article about HMSS, that suggested it had threat indication and could display letters in the manner Sky Guardian does
Yeah seems Janes was hitting the crack pipe too hard again. Striker is way more basic than that.
Suppose it doesn’t help they reused the Striker name for Typhoon;
Is there anything in Manual for IFF markers purely in the cockpit HUD?
For GR9 and GR4? No idea don’t have those manuals. The symbology is from the Jaguar GR3/GR3A manual.
Ah, okay. Because that’s what I’d be rather interested in. Is if the tornados or Harriers had the ability to display friendlies in the HUD. Would be awesome for SIM.
I wanna say, the FA2 may have done from books I’ve read but not sure.
GR7 doesn’t for sure, GR4 came with a new HUD unit but if it had the same IFF system I’ve no idea. Don’t even know yet if the symbology on GR4 is even different or if it was just an improvement in forward visibility.
GR9 I don’t have that info either sadly.
In here Janes seems to suggest that there are 2 templates, the simpler one on the right, and a more sophisticated one on the bottom. I doubt they just made that up, so it has to come from something.
Or rather, based on this
They probably refer to Guardian.
One is a Viper II style helmet and the other is something else that seems to be in development, non of them are the final Striker HMS used by GR3.
Just edited.
That is probably the Guardian display.
Guardian from Kentron document
I would say it refers to Guardian.
Yeah doesn’t seem that ever made it into service.
Fun fact, it was part of the Rooivalk offer to UK
It seems it had to do something with the Cheetahs, but im not sure if it served on them or not.
Would certainly add some spice to the aircraft if it did.
And, well, Guardina on the Rooivlak, but probably a different version
And Cheetah in the Guardian brochure
