This picture was from my grandpa back when he was in the military, I don’t know if he took that but I can confirm this is real. It has a main cone twice that size and small cone in all of the engines and in the targeting pod in the nose.
WT had a lot bigger and longer lasting supersonic cones couple years back, and they were made a lot smaller.
Why, because it really was annoying how it blocked view , while rb are flown on 3rd person.
But yea, having realistic size of those cones in any aircraft looks good, but on gaming , especially pvp it doesnt work so well.
Yeah the B-52 would rip itself apart if it managed to break the sound barrier but it could be possible for one to produce a vapour cone still.
(Just bare with me here I’m not an expert on this I just googled don’t take this as 100% accurate)
When a plane is moving fast enough through transonic speeds the air is pushed out of the way quickly which because of the shape of the wings and fuselage causes a drop in the air pressure immediately around the plane. With the drop in pressure the air immediately around the plane also drops in temperature causing the water vapour in the air to condense into a cloud which then forms into the cone shape.
A vapour cone is usually seen at high transonic speeds but can occur from around mach 0.7 if the conditions are right. There’s an image of this occurring on a B-2 Spirit flying over the pacific coast which would have a high enough humidity for it to happen, due to the shape of the B-2 and how the aerodynamics of it work the vapour cone is more of a vapour ball.
So if the conditions are right and since the max mach limit for a B-52 is around mach 0.8 then in theory it should be possible for a B-52 to create a vapour cone. Although yeah I’m not sure of how real the image of the B-52 is I have only found the image from a Reddit post.
I’ve once seen Swiss Hunter T.68’s at an airshow in extremely humid but relatively cool Summer weather which were going as fast as they could, and one could see nice cones forming, even behind the canopies.
But such puffy clouds as in the BUFF picture?!? Nah…
