The B-29 Superfortress is currently placed at 7.0–7.3 in Air RB, but in its current state, it is significantly up-tiered and struggles to perform effectively at that BR. At 7.0+, the B-29 is consistently matched against early jet aircraft such as the Me 262 and Yak-15. These jets have a massive speed advantage, allowing them to easily intercept and destroy the B-29 before it can meaningfully contribute to the match. Unlike earlier BR ranges, where piston-engine interceptors at least require time and positioning to engage, jets can climb and reach the B-29 with little difficulty. Additionally, while the B-29 historically had strong defensive armament, in-game this is far less effective against jet aircraft. The high closure speeds of jets make defensive gunners less reliable, and even minor mistakes by the B-29 pilot are heavily punished due to its large size and lack of maneuverability. Another key issue is the time-to-impact factor. At its current BR, many matches are effectively decided before the B-29 can reach bombing altitude or deliver its payload. This makes its primary role strategic bombing far less impactful than intended.
Lowering the B-29 to 6.0 would:
- make it where it rarely facing early jets
- Place it in a more appropriate environment against late-war piston fighters
At 6.0, the B-29 would still have clear weaknesses (large size, poor maneuverability, reliance on altitude), but it would no longer be consistently outclassed by aircraft from a completely different technological generation. Overall, a BR of 6.0 would provide a more balanced and historically appropriate experience for the B-29 without making it overpowered.
