History.
The OM Taurus is a truck produced by Officine Meccaniche (absorbed by Fiat a few years after) between the end of the 1930s and the 1950s. The chariot was a smaller reinterpretation of the OM Ursus chariot, and retained its lines. The wagon proved itself well, especially in North Africa, proving to be one of the best trucks in its class. Thanks to its good capabilities and its impressive load capacity (close although not by much to those of the mighty Lancia 3Ro) the tank was also used by the troops as a transport vehicle for smaller vehicles and even as an anti-aircraft-anti-tank gun truck. Two cannon trucks on OM Taurus were photographed in Libya on the Via Balbia between 1940 and 1942 and in the photo the two trucks are placed in front of a column of trucks (probably the photos were taken during a break in the journey) and the first of the two truck, the one at the head of the convoy, has an unusual camouflage with stripes and small spots (probably dark white/grey and yellow). Unfortunately, it is not known what happened to these rather unique examples of autocannon, but they were probably destroyed during a firefight with English enemy units.
Armament and propulsion.
The truck is armed with a Breda 20/65 Model 1935 anti-aircraft-anti-tank gun, a gun widely used by Italian troops given the large quantity of specimens produced. Given the height of the banks, the cannon had a very limited depression, but had an almost unlimited firing angle and enjoyed partial cover from land attacks. The quantity of ammunition carried is unknown.
The truck was powered by a 5,320 cc, 67 HP OM CR 1 D engine. Adding this to the additional armament, the tank could reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h in stable flat terrain.
