Auto-Tracking/Auto-Lead/Ballistic Computer for the M153 CROWS (M1A2 SEPV2)

I want to start this by stating I’m not an authority on how the CROWS system works, nor am I entirely familiar with the information that is available for the system.

This is not a demand in anyway, nor is it really even a suggestion. It more like a discussion for a suggestion. An appeal for more understanding of the system to check if it even worth suggesting. I personally haven’t seen it suggested before. (Yes, I did check the suggestion archive to see if this was brought up before.)

Okay, enough with the disclaimers.

The CROWS system is useless in the game. It could even be viewed as worse then a normal crew mounted M2. (Height) I think something, even if it’s minor, should be done to spice this bitch up.

Add a ballistic computer for auto-tracking. Like a modern gunned SPAA.

What? So it can track jets and stuff? No, maybe idk.
Listen, you’re not going to hit a 12.0+ jet with a single .50 cal, even with a computer.

No, no, that won’t due. But, for drones, helicopters, and lightly armo(u)red vechicals, I think it would be rad.

Now, you might be asking, does the CROWS system have auto-tracking, etc? … I think so?

I’ve read it has auto-tracking, but auto-tracking what?

Can it even track ariel objects? I DON’T KNOW.

You can see why I front loaded this post with disclaimers. I’m certain that some people of this forum are far more knowledgeable about this subject than I, and they might even have proper (not illegal) information of the system.

So, by all means, let me know if there might be something to this.

THIS CONCLUDES THE ORIGINAL POST

On one hand I would love to see RCWS and FCS being modelled correctly (especially on the more modern systems like Type 10), there is a reasonable argument that it diminishes yet another low tier skill applicable at top tier, that being the formulation of lead solutions in one’s own head, if we allow this to come to war thunder in the form of a moving lead reticle then it takes away from your past experiences learning how to lead SPAA guns for example.

However, i am also not opposed to the removal of the BS autoleading computer on the Kamovs, that allows for laser accurate ammo racks with the 30mm

Im down for RCWS considering many current tanks in game can be given them which just adds to the more modern feeling of some tanks and IFVs

100% on the skill/tech exchange at top tier. But, I figure it should be modeled if it has it.
Also, I’m by no means suggesting that the CROWS should be the only RCWS to have this.

Most CV90’s have RCWS and quite a few other IFV’s do also

Then take away ballistic computer for jet guns. I don’t think a lot use it, or rely on it, but I do see it. Same with helis, and not just cuz their pinpoint accuracy bugs you lol

remove it.

Combining a laser tracker that you can’t reasonably counter in a tank without popping smoke and sitting still, and an unrealistically accurate 30mm firing APDS straight into the weakest parts on an MBT, make an incredibly frustrating and irritating combination to deal with, it should have to be manually aimed (in Kamovs only) to remove a portion of their proficiency as braindead heli-rushers

I disagree, they have a gun, keep the gun. Don’t nerf one vehicle cuz you don’t like it.

Bring others up to snuff or remove them all.

The one ingame is the earlier M153 CROWS fit, rather than the Abrams-optimised CROWS-LP.
AFAIK both have auto-tracking though

It’s literally only an issue on kamovs, if the SPI lead indicator was overperforming on any other helis then I’d campaign for their removal too

No shit? I read some war thunder post that stated it was the M153AE1, which I think is the low profile one.

I just check some reference images, and I believe you’re right.

I’ll adjust the subject line to reflect that.
