Australian F-18, Typhoon ASRAAMs

RAAF F/A-18A with ASRAAMs

The ASRAAM (AIM-132), developed by MBDA UK, is a high-speed infrared-guided missile designed for close-range air combat. Capable of flying over Mach 3 and maneuvering at 50 g, it allows pilots to fire and disengage before enemy retaliation. It replaced the AIM-9 Sidewinder in the RAF and was adopted by India, Qatar, Oman, and the Australian air force.

Originally a UK-German project in the 1980s, ASRAAM complemented the US AIM-120 AMRAAM for medium-range roles. After Germany exited in 1989, the UK continued solo, fielding the missile in 1998. ASRAAM also underpins the CAMM system for ground-based air defense and has been adapted as the Raven variant for Ukraine.

The ASRAAM was used on both the British version of the Typhoon and the Australian F/A-18A, yet the appears on none in the game. A possible reason for its exclusion from the game could be balancing, yet if that is the case it would not make sense for the AMRAAM to also be included.

And it is not like this missile is a hypothetical conjecture like the KH-38, as it was widely used and recognized by several countries, and tested and developed extensively.

The exclusion of the AIM-132 ASRAAM is yet another major miss from Gaijin. The missile has the ability to 1) make the Australian F-18 more unique and less of a lazy copy and paste 2) allow for new tactics and gameplay in top tier as it varies from the AMRAAM.

Very nice
Lot’s of text I can’t read

ASRAAM will be awesome and is probably overdue at this point, but will have to come with “equivalents” like the IRIS-T, AIm-9X, etc etc.

Though I do wonder what they will do for lower BR aircraft that should have them, like the Tornado GR4

Or Sea Harrier FRS.1 with Meteor and ASRAAM

never used either.

FA2 did get ASRAAMs, but not Meteor, it was retired 10 years before Meteor entered service

So the FRS.1 should get Meteors from 2020s and ASRAAM Blk 6? That is amazing >:D

Let me ask you first - do you honestly believe gaijin should add ASRAAM, but only to the aussie hornets?

Oh definitely not. Sorry if I didn’t make it clear, but I figured the addition of the Aussie hornet might provide a gateway to other existing planes getting ASRAAMs. By no means should it be limited to just the Australian F-18 or the typhoon seeing as how it was adopted by India, Qatar and Oman as well

As morvran said, next gen IR missiles will very likely all come together at once. Not just ASRAAM but others as well.

It was the case with ARHs, it will likely be case with IRs.

We don’t even have the IRIS-T on aircraft yet, hell no it’s too early

I did originally suggest it to come with them, as one of the points of the HUG programme was to give it more advanced weapons, including the ASRAAM. But now? It would be too early.

Perhaps they will add a more later HUG variant, and why not the B variant HUG Hornet with Python 4’s while at it )

don’t forget american f-16. americans were the ones to fire the asraam first

F-18 at 14.0 for Britian doesnt make much sense to me. Its a bit of a weak aircraft that doesnt really add much.

F-16I is the same. Feels a bit weak for 14.0.

So Im wondering if they are stacking the deck ready for Gen 5 IRs coming later this year (a bit like how we saw the J-8F and a few others added before ARH was added)

Seems so…
