well maybe if we got our own unique vehicles that weren’t artificially nerfed and 2 years too late maybe we wouldn’t have to
I don’t disagree, but if it’s pick between nicking “other countries kit” (might be relevant to remind you Australia is part of the commonwealth) and getting short changed because Gaijin doesn’t believe our kit could ever possibly be good, I know which one I’m picking. I didn’t want the Bhishma as much as the next person, I wanted Chally 1 and 2 buffed instead. However Gaijin is dead set on watering down the British tree so uh…

The problem is the point of a subtree is to bring a new nation, in it’s entirety, to the game- not to just give existing nations good vehicles. If that was the case, why even worry about the country at all, just give every tree the same vehicle as from any number of slightly related or even unrelated countries!
So a Canadian subtree or an Australian one would be great. But those trees need to come in as proper, complete subtrees with the vehicles of those nations, “good” and “bad”. Not a Leopard 2A6M from Canada, Alpha Jet from Egypt, F-111 from Australia, JAS39 from South Africa, F-15 from Singapore, etc etc. Adding the best vehicles from a bunch of nations without full trees only does those nations a disservice, while simultaneously locking them out of other current or future trees.
Same with the ideas of an Asian subtree for Japan or a central European subtree for Germany or Russia: if you can’t add everything, it’s too big to be a subtree and shouldn’t be introduced to another nation at all (unless it’s an export vehicle, which is acceptable until a proper tree comes)
I like Leopard 1s and all bets are off since the Bhishma, but there’s a decent few British/SA tanks to help with the 9.X MBT shortage instead, like the Chieftain Mk.11, Vickers Mk.3(M), Vickers Mk.4s and Olifant Mk.1Bs.
I do agree with you there. Then again I suppose how you approach it depends on whether or not you consider Britain to be in shortage of good vehicles. To which I’d say “Britain certainly has good vehicles: however they are few and far between and there are not enough of them at the moment.” Which of course then relies on Mighty Snail either buffing the current ones or giving something new… which I don’t see happening.
Then again I’d honestly think a “Commonwealth” line or lines would be great for Britain. Distinctive, homegrown tanks and planes which provide something unique to the game. Rooikats being a decent example. Absolutely love them to bits, as they provide something different to the tree. Personally I feel South Africa was a somewhat successful (and probably the most successful) subtree. We got the Olifants (which are kinda unique? Upgunned Cents aren’t new, but uh the Lase? hell yeah) and the Rooikats, which I like to scoot around the map in.
While I get what you are saying, the F-111 (to be precise, the F-111K) was seriously being considered as a option for procuring a Strike/Interdiction aircraft. Just, like with TSR-2, the Government dithered long enough, and of course the cost of the programme skyrocketed sufficiently to put off the Brits. But it was seriously proposed (albeit modified, if I remember to fit British avionics and possibly Engines?)
The Alpha Jet and Gripen do have some connection to the UK in that they were used by the ETPS, but my understanding is in that capacity they’ve never been fitted with weapons, which would probably render them unsuitable for addition to Britain.
