Feedback: Why the AUBL/74 HVG (60 mm) “does nothing” and should be 7.3 BR
Dear moderators,
I would like to provide detailed feedback on the AUBL/74 HVG with the 60 mm gun in War Thunder – specifically why it is ineffective, practically useless in its current form, and why the most reasonable change would be to lower its Battle Rating from 8.0 to 7.3.
1. No post-pen damage – zero spalling
The most critical issue: the vehicle produces almost no spall. Even direct hits on ammo racks or crew result in little to no damage. Community reports describe it as:
“ZERO spalling … it’s a struggle to kill literally anything.”
This makes the gun ineffective for precision flanking or surgical shots, as you cannot reliably finish opponents.
2. Inconsistent penetration performance
While it fires APFSDS, the 60 mm behaves far worse than expected:
“The gun is extremely inconsistent, buggy, and very bad at going through components compared to almost any other APFSDS.”
This means even successful penetrations rarely disable critical components or secure kills.
3. Over-tiered at 8.0 BR
Multiple community discussions agree that 8.0 is far too high for what the vehicle can actually achieve:
“8.0 is seriously too high and 7.7 is still too high, 7.3 would be the sweet spot.”
At 8.0 it constantly faces uptiers, where its gun and survivability are hopelessly outclassed.
4. Long reload – weak firepower
A ~7–8 second reload for a 60 mm gun is unjustifiably slow:
“7.2 seconds reload is not very good when you have to shoot around 3 shells to kill all crew.”
The slow reload punishes the player even more since it usually takes multiple shots to achieve a kill.
5. Worse post-pen than smaller calibers
Players note that its 60 mm APFSDS does less internal damage than even 30 mm APDS rounds:
“HVG post pen is non-existent, it has worse post pen than 30 mm APDS when it’s 60 mm APFSDS. It’s an absolute joke.”
This makes the gun feel broken and counterintuitive.
6. Mobility and stabilizer do not compensate
Yes, the AUBL/74 HVG has a 2-plane stabilizer and can reach high speeds (~100 km/h). But these advantages do not balance the fact that its gun performance is unreliable, reload is poor, and survivability is non-existent. Speed alone cannot justify a BR of 8.0.
Summary Table
|Issue|Explanation|
|No post-pen damage|Ammo racks and crew survive clean penetrations|
|Inconsistent penetration|Poor component damage, buggy shell performance|
|Over-tiered at 8.0|Constant uptiers, cannot compete|
|Slow reload (~7–8s)|Too long for a gun that requires 2–3 shots to kill|
|Worse than 30 mm APDS|60 mm APFSDS behaves like a far weaker shell|
|Mobility ≠ balance|Speed + stabilizer do not offset extremely poor damage|
