OK, trying to play assault arcade in the F-14B, lobbing Aim-54’s at Kikka’s and G4’s from 10-20 miles out.
4x times in one match I’ve spontaneously exploded and had my death awarded to an AI kikka… while being 10+ miles away from the closest AI aircraft. It’s always a kikka, never a G4.
Any theories as to how the AI are killing me with a 30mm cannon from a few zip codes away?
Basically rendering the mode unplayable.

Yeah, it’s the wrath of the Kikkas. They can detonate missiles right off the rails as well as also detonating all bombs when you’re on a run against the artillery waves. This has been ongoing since Leviathans came out I think.
Edit: I’m only half kidding about ‘the wrath of the Kikkas.’ There doesn’t need to be a Kikka wave on the map for them to get the kill credit against you. And what’s most aggravating is when I’ve managed to gauge when the arties will come and I’m the first out with my F-105 bombtruck and start dropping, only for the last bomb to blow myself up, as well as every other bomb I’ve dropped.
The only silver lining is that this is limited to the Zhengzhou map and not Norway…

First time I’d seen it so didn’t realise it was a known bug, thought I was going nuts.
Note to self… do not spawn on Zhengzhou… take the crew lock.

I just play the assaults once a day for their booster, so unless you play many matches a day, I’d not recommend to return to hangar.
It’s actually hilarious in some respects. My pet peeve is Maverick and Kh38 carriers managing to wipe whole waves, but occasionally you’ll see their and other’s missiles just poof while enroute to the enemy. So if I was in a disadvantageous position before, all of a sudden I have an opportunity to loose my own payloads once you wait a beat for the Kikka’s Wrath to subside.
It’s roulette either way.
Oddly enough, that P-51 should be able to clean up if he camps spawn points. He probably wondered why all the missile trucks are so low on the leaderboard heh.

If you leave early enough it doesn’t count as your 1x per day for the booster. Actually did it today when a Hornet took out 80% of the first two waves by himself leaving the rest of us to just watch.

Well guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I’ve always just embraced the suck.
Was the Hornet pilot me? Heh, I usually start out strong but chill out over the course of the match.
There’s also the Berlin map which is a particular favorite of mine. Those Tupolev’s are cram packed with so much HE filler. Even AIM-9s can get multi-kills if the formation is just right.
