Background

Arma Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle is highly modular, amphibious, wheeled armored fighting vehicle family designed and developed by Otokar. Development of Arma fighting vehicle family started in 2007 as a private venture of Otokar. First Arma was revealed in 2010 in 6x6 configuration. In 2011, first Arma with 8x8 configuration was revealed to public. Both 6x6 and 8x8 configurations found success in export market and 8x8 version is expected to be selected by Turkish Army for Special Purpose Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicle project, no information about contract yet. This version with KORHAN Turret System is also competes in New Generation Armored Combat Vehicle Projects against FNSS’s Pars IV 8x8 and BMC’s Altuğ 8x8.

Arma 8x8

Otokar is no stranger of 8x8 platforms, with BTRs closing to end of their service life Otokar initiated Yavuz 8x8 project at 2001 in an effort to fill the ranks of retired BTRs. Since Otokar had no experience in this field, decided cooperate with Singaporean firm Singapore Technologies Kinetics to develop their own localised version. Yavuz project received no interest and eventually scrapped. Otokar, with the experiences and expertise gained from this project developed Arma family.

Arma 8x8 is a highly modular tactical wheeled vehicle. Thanks to its high modularity, it can be fitted with variety of turret and weapon systems and fulfil different operational roles, such as:

Arma 8x8 (SARP 100/35) ^{^{^{Third Generation}}}

Arma 8x8 is one of the most modular platforms offered by Otokar fitted with variety of different weapon platform ranging from 25mm auto-cannons to ATGM Launchers to 105mm tank cannons.
This specific Arma 8x8 is armed with ASELSAN’s state-of-the-art SARP 100/35 unmanned weapon system. Arma 8x8 in this configuration was first revealed during İDEF’21 as Otokar’s answer to NG-ACV (New Generation-Armored Combat Vehicle) Project’s requirements. Per requirements, Otokar mated SARP 100/35 with new generation Arma 8x8 to achieve superb mobility, enhanced situational awareness as well as high firepower in one platform.

Arma 8x8 platform is being improved by Otokar to meet modern standards, so there are some substantial differences between Arma’s showcased over the years. Early Arma 8x8s were fitted with 450 horsepower engines, later models came with more powerful 600 horsepower and latest model is powered by 720 horsepower engine. Engine, of course, is not the only upgrade received in its lifetime, later models received additional armor and better situational awareness equipments. There is no official designation for Arma 8x8 with different specifications but I’ll separate from each other by mentioning them as First, Second and Third Generation. This specific Arma 8x8 is built upon Third Generation platform with most powerful engine.

Firepower

This variant of Arma 8x8 is armed with ASELSAN’s state-of-the-art unmanned turret system SARP 100/35 armed with ASELSAN MAKS T-35 35mm Auto-Cannon with capability to fire ATOM 35 Airburst Ammunition, primary armament is supplemented with Co-Axial 7.62mm machine-gun as secondary armament. Firepower of SARP 100/35 is further boasted with advanced optic system for both gunner and commander, with ability to engage both ground and air targets.

SARP 100/35

SARP 100/35 is an unmanned weapon system designed and developed by ASELSAN. SARP 100/35 is armed with ASELSAN MAKS T-35 35mm Linkless-Feed Auto-Cannon, Co-Axial 7.62mm Machine-Gun, likely MKE PMT-76-57A, or 12.7mm Machine-Gun, likely CANiK M2 QCB. Firepower of SARP 100/35 further enhanced with ASELSAN’s own electro-optical suite, consisting of dedicate Gunner’s and Commander’s Sights, as well as fire-control system which allows SARP to engage both ground and air target effectively with Target Tracking System. SARP 100/35 also has high situational awareness thanks to superb electro-optics and LİAS laser warning receiver. SARP also enhances the protection level of the platform it is mated with AKKOR soft & hard-kill active protection system and SPOT Gunshot Detection System. SARP 100/35 can be controlled by both Gunner and Commander through their own stations.

SARP 100/35 has optional remote controlled weapon platform, likely SARP 100, which can be armed with 7.62mm Machine-Gun, likely MKE PMT-76-57A or Co-Axial 12.7mm Machine-Gun, likely CANiK M2 QCB or 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher, either MKE 40mm OBA or 40mm MK-19 Mod-3.

ATOM 35 is a Smart Airburst Round designed and developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE and ASELSAN with cooperation to increase 35mm Auto-Cannon’s effectiveness against aerial threats. With its high velocity and smart fuse, ATOM 35 is capable round against both air and ground targets with high hit probability.

Arma 8x8 is powered by 720 Horsepower Caterpillar CT13 Turbocharged Diesel Engine, coupled with unspecified automatic gear box. This specific Arma has approximate power-to-weight ration around 22 hp/t to 23 hp/t depending on weight of turret and additional equipment, with a top speed of 105 km/h.

Protection

Arma 8x8 with its monocoque steel hull offers high level of ballistic protection against KE projectiles, mine protection and IED threats. Modular structure of armor allows composite modules to be replaced in need of repair or operational requirements, even in battlefield environment. From the looks of it, this specific Arma 8x8 is fitted with additional armor units. Base Arma models comes with STANAG 4569 Level II but it could be fitted with additional armor up Level IV depending on operational needs, this specific version likely has Level IV by standard. This specific variant of Arma 8x8 is also fitted with AKKOR Active Protection System which significantly increases its protection level.

Implementation to War Thunder

Arma Tactical Wheeled Vehicle family should be reserved for future Turkish Ground Forces Tech Tree. Arma 8x8 in this configuration would be somewhat similar to Freccia. BR-Wise it would fit around somewhere between 8.7 - 9.3 Battle Rating.
