While looking around for documentation, I found this old brochure from 2011 which states that the armour is made of “the latest composite armour on the frontal arc”. Link here.
This of course does not say what kind of material is inside but we can rule out that air (as presented in War Thunder) is not the latest type of composite.
I would say that adding or switching a plate of NERA elements would be reasonable.

After the latest announcements I believe most reports are going meet the same fate.

Man if the LFP, UPF, and turret cheeks get corrected, the Ariete could draw more attention to the Italy/Hungary tree as a whole and get some more fun stuff added. I’ve always enjoyed the Ariete anyways. Looking forward to more reports

They are working on the spall liners for the Ariete tanks so keep it up guys i love my ARI’s lets make them the top dog.
