Are ZSU-23-4 and ZSU-37-2 supposed to be PESA?

I stumbled upon it some time ago, but i failed to find anything, so im asking you guys.

Are 1RL33 and 1RL34 supposed to be PESA? Considering the radars shapes, and years they were created, i would expect them to be normal MSA radars.

Would be glad if anyone could provide me some information.

They aren’t PESA ingame either, they’re just early conical scanning radars.

Well, as can be seen on the video i posted, they do preform PESA scan pattern in game, that is point a smaller beam up and down over the whole scan zone, without moving the radar.
Other radars that have the same pattern are EDR 110 (PESA), HARD (AESA)
Horizontal variation (Left to Right and repeat) is preformmed by 1RS2 (PESA) and 9K330 (PESA).

So they should have a completly differnt pattern in game, interesting.
And also another thing, from my understanding that action should be preformed by radar, but in game the radar is not moving, but the beam itself. That lead me to conclusion that it is PESA in game.

The dish doesn’t move (except for its azimuth), the radar antenna feed does, which is hidden behind the outer cover.

The scan pattern in search mode is probably different to the tracking mode conical pattern, but the theory is the same, rapidly moving the antenna feed to steer the beam.

Oh, so the radar is a smaller one that moves inside the cover? I thought it is the Covered Cassegrain type, as it perfectly fits the definition: When the cover of these antennas is flattened in the main beam direction then the cover forms with the reflector a special kind of the Cassegrain antenna. Something Russia also used in for example OSA (But without the sides covered)image

I believe it is a covered cassegrain radar like the Osa’s.

The small feed is in the centre of the parabolic primary reflector, and its the feed being angled back and forth to steer the beam.

I could have some details here and there inaccurate, but as far as I know, that’s how it works.
