Always Rus get stuff like this. Somehow sad for a vid game company.
TL;DR: Not Russian bias (this time): Just multipath at 30m and notch sometimes and you will be fine.
Why:
Comparing the AIM-120 and R77-1 there are only two significant differences: proxy fuse range and explosive mass. The AIM-120 has a bigger proxy fuse range (12m vs 10m), but the R-77-1 has more explosive mass (15,5kg vs 9,8kg). This may be why it feels a bit different. (There are of course also tiny differences in lofting, but those are inconsequential imo).
However, I do not think that is the whole story. The reason why you get splashed while others do not is probably because of two reasons, you multipath incorrectly and you do not notch while multipathing. Let me explain.
Multipath height matters a lot. 30m is the ideal height for multipath, going higher or lower than that reduces its effectiveness. The more you move away from 30m the less effective the multipath will be, with 50m or 10m height having a very small effect. 60m has no effectiveness and so does 0m.
You will get splashed when too low like in the example image:
However, when launched from up high, you can still get splashed by missiles even if you are multipathing perfectly. This makes just multipathing a gambling mans strategy even if used fully correctly. This is why it feels so frustrating, you do everything correctly and still die.
What should you do then?
Actually just notch when multipathing, that’s all. Missiles CANNOT use SRC TRK when looking down, and therefore CANNOT see you when you are notching and they are looking down. They NEED datalink or IOG, both of which are imprecise and IOG drifts a lot unless updated. Notching also tends to notch the shooting aircraft radar, making the missile fully rely on IOG, essentially guaranteeing a miss as you change your pathing a lot when down low.
In incredibly mid and I can farm through pvp just fine.
Shouldn’t it put the missile into notch though?
Sometimes yes, but not if the plane is moving in such a way that the angle towards the ground, and the angle towards the target aircraft are different.
Fun fact: Datalink is perfectly accurate in game. Atleast so much so as your radar’s lock is (so in this case it will still be affected by multipathing, but regardless).
Multipathing is bugged right now. It only works at 30m and is virtually useless at 60m.
There is a YouTube video where some guy did a testing on multipathing.
