Anti-Radiation Missiles and Electronic Support Measures!

I have a question.

What steps are being taken to balance these missiles?

Top tier gameplay is already dominated by cas, with decent spaa systems providing some relief.

Given that it’s not uncommon to have to expend almost all of a top tier spaas missile supply defending against the absolute flood of lmur and kh-38MT, and also given that it absolutely requires the radar to be active for this happen, what counterplay do ground players have? Having to attempt to defeat arm missiles coming in at Mach Jesus is going to expend missile stocks far faster.

Are there any plans to increase the number of reloads possible from ammo crates for spaa?

I question why arm missiles are necessary given the oppressive state of cas at top tier, but that’s for another time.

Of course people have to keep their radar on. It takes lmurs seconds to travel and kh-38MT are also fast. Radar is required to have any chance of stopping the storm of missiles coming in.

Hm, that reply was in response to a question specifically about aircraft, if I haven’t misinterpreted the original question. So I was talking about my use of radar when I’m in an aircraft.

I’d assume as always when new tech is added to the game, players will have to learn how to deal with it…

Radar SPAAG’s changed how pilots attacked, AGM’s changed how tanks and SPAA behaved. SAM’s again forced aircraft to adapt, long distance weapons again put pressure back on ground, ground got long distance, self guiding SAM’s, now ARM’s will shift the balance yet again.

Ah, thought you was talking about ground radar.

Of course things adapt in the real world, but we’re not in the real world.

There’s no layered air defence and more importantly, there’s no data network or air defence systems. For example, one sky sabre can use the radar systems of another or an entirely different system to obtain targeting data. We don’t have that and every system is an island.

This is why this is such a bad idea to add. There is literally no defence as you either die to the arm or you die to the storm of a2g weapons which are almost certainly incoming.

Arm is a terrible idea in such small sandboxes with no way to share data.

Where’s the counter play to it?

Are you only playing on the Russia team? This is just blatantly false if you play NATO side, unless they have made some changes I have not seen in any datamines or changelogs. The BUK M3 is constantly spamming a bottomless supply of fox 3 missiles at you from the opposite side of the map from the second you take off from your airfield, so you are just constantly either notching or multipathing buk missiles without ever being able to actually play the objective, otherwise if you do try, you get domed by 3 separate buk missiles while trying. And since your HARMs don’t have a ramjet engine that keeps them at mach 4, they cannot reach the buks at all, and if they even get close, they are so slow they all get intercepted. Even if you do somehow manage to knock out the search radar, every single missile vehicle has another radar of its own so it can still keep slinging missiles at everything because of its omniscient AI that knows exactly where everything is even without a search radar.

No British aircraft use ARMAT, it was a French derivative of Martel.

I play britain, so i’m playing on both teams cause gaijin fumbled the team selection.

I meant AS.37 in general

Hope this means we can see some SEAD aircraft, particularly the F-4G since that actually has ordinary armament as well as the AGM-78 STARM would be a very effective counterpart to the Kh-31s

Functionality missing from Rafale to loose munitions at RWR pings as well.

Gr7 needs ALARM, it does not have a rating in ground that facilitates its use without ALARM.

Also why can we not inform the weapon of emission to target? This functionality has been present in these forms of munitions for a very long time.

The AGM-88G would have been a better counterpart to the KH-31PD. A bit worse speed and range in exchange for a bit better of a seeker (added C and J bands).

I’m glad we finally get ARMs, hopefully this means we can have the Tornado ECR for both Italy and Germany in the future :)

Like KH38MT was? /s

  1. ARMs can’t target airborne targets anymore.

(Unless the R-27P (and others) is added, which is technically an air to air ARM)

  1. If they could’ve, no, it would not give a warning. Anti-radiation missiles work similarly to IR missiles, except they don’t seek heat but radar emissions. Though if your jet had a MAWS, then yes you’d get a warning.

Israeli ROCKS arm when???

What special features are you looking for?

For a new mechanic, generally the first step is setting up the standardised framework for it, before branching out for custom “special features” in later updates.

Right now everyone will get three dimensional triangulation, a feature reserved to few specific sensors and aircraft, for example the AN/ASQ - 213, SPECTRA on the Rafle, DASS on the EFT or EPAWSS on the F15EX. Most aircraft that simply carry ARMs shouldn’t have access to these capabilities. Some systems also allow to mark a GPS point at the place of the emitter or get accurate ranging information. What’s the point of flying a SEAD specific aircraft if you have exactly the same capabilities as run of the mill fighter simply strapped with ARMs for TOO or SP?
