Anti-Radiation Missiles and Electronic Support Measures!

Not sure what’s going on. I mean, is there even an example where the launching aircraft uses ARM’s seeker to cue the missile?

I found the UI, if u press ‘view secondary weapons’ (i think thats what its called) under the drop-down menu for the plane, a list of second dary weapon will show and u have to click the the ARM/HARM and the UI will be on the right, u have to hover ur mouse over each radar band letters (the radar band should be blue color)

When fired at a cluster of targets, shouldn’t ARMs retarget if the one they’re focusing on dies? I’ve mostly noticed this in PvE.

Also shouldn’t we be able to maddog them?

In a combat scenario like we have in WT where enemy and friendly air defenses are so tightly positioned. A maddog ARM may cause a TK imo.

Anyways being able to maddog a ARM gives us more flexibility in air.
What I really want to see is something like HARM POS or PB mode, which tells HARM where (though ambiguous) to go and what targets to look for.
This way the missile can better manage its flight profile and would not require a line of sight to the target.

That depends. ALARM (and presumably other ARMs) had a threat library where they could be programmed to only attack radars which the enemy was known to be using. RWRs used a similar system IRL to differentiate between friendly and hostile radars, and Gaijin have given them IFF in game to mimic that functionality.

So if they were being consistent they would give ARMs with a threat library IFF, like they have RWRs with a threat library, but for some reason they seem reluctant to do that.

Because modern IRL ARMs definitely don’t have IFF filters or anything?

Also I haven’t seen a single ARM tk in a match since the update; it’s a niche enough weapon that in my experience, the people using it tend to understand it well enough to use it correctly (i.e. checking your team-list for risks first)

Yeah, that is the thing I see argued all the time with ARM and MMW.

“But what about the TKs”

well… if you dont want to kill teammates dont fire them at teammates. Heck I think the large bombs at lower BRs would still be more TK prone than LOAL weapons

1000% this - the amount of TKs I see at low tier is way higher than at top-tier, but no-one complains because it’s a combination of “skill-issue” (hate that term) and bad luck.

TKs happen in ASB/GSB all the time and they’re supposed to, it’s what forces you to either slow down and think before engaging, or improve your reactions and practice.

The “MMW would cause TKs” thing also annoys me because with modern battle-space networking, even those can perform a kind of IFF. IFF and battle-space awareness is one of the reasons most of NATO have been obsessed with networking everyting since its inception.

yeah it just turns the radar screen off, but the ESM screen doesn’t show either. I have AGM-88C, the HARM Pod, and the key bound for switch between radar/esm. Gonna make a bug report.

You didn’t have them actually locked, just highlighted (like TWS).

You can also see a couple of the AGMs aren’t completely aligned with the targeting box when you fire so you had actually locked the Veak directly.

Unfortunate, but preventable with proper awareness.

ARMs are absolutely horrible to play against at this point. My US 10.3 lineup already struggled against space bombing Mirages and Kamovs, and now ARMs can be fired from far above my scan horizon. I just got out of a game where I was trying to use the XM975 against a Mirage 2000 space bombing with Paveways, but he fired a ARMAT at nearly 90* off his nose and far above my scan angle. The fact that things like the Ozelot can be detected by ARMs, and ARMs can lock when there is no outgoing radar signal, is insane. Vertical scan angles and SAM capability is not nearly good enough to counter these missiles, it was already a pain to counter Laser Guided Bomb CAS before this point. Now it’s basically impossible.

CAS at higher tiers really needs decompression, including the fatal flaw that 14.7 planes are (for some incoherent reason) compressed down to 13.0. Having things like ADATS being the only AA facing 14.7 planes in a 12.0 lineup, and then having it nuked from orbit by ARMs it never has a chance to see, is a huge issue. The FlaRakRad with its 18* of vertical arc, ADATS with the same, while things like S1 and TOR have 64+* of scan arc is patently unfair. The ITOs are barely better with 27*. So many NATO AA have no chance if they aren’t first spawn, and then the inconsistent radar returns of munitions (or even lofting) means even worse odds for those vehicles.

ARMs should have been reserved for top-top tier air that fights AA that has an actual chance.
Yall keep freaking ruining tiers and are slowly working your way down. First it was top tier with the SMSV and 38MT, now it’s the 31PD and ARMs facing anemic cold war AA. And the LZ-39 and Yak-130 facing Stinger AA.

If the Ozelot is being detected and tracked, make a bug report for sure.

Hell it can also be notched, and the search sensor is marked as a radar. I feel like ground vehicle IRST is labelled as some sort of radar with a unique band sometimes but I can’t say for sure.

I’m considering making a report but I don’t have my own ARMs, working purely on what my friends have said.
