The AMX A-1A desperately needs its BR changed, or changed to AMX A-1M and given A-Darter or MAA-1B Piranha missiles.
Currently it is useless at air RB, with two flare-hungry missiles.
Its flight performance and missiles are worthy of 10.3, maybe 10.7 at max if we want to be generous, matching the BR with the tech tree AMX.
The MiG-21Bis with lower BR, receives 4x R-60M(K)
The Sea Harrier FRS.1 (Squadron) with lower BR, receives 4x Aim-9L, with much flight performance.
The SU-25BM with same BR, receives 2x R-60M and 2x R-73 (IRCCM).
The Jaguar IS, with same BR, receives two Magic 2 missiles with IRCCM with supersonic.
The Harrier AV-8B (NA) with same BR, receives 4x Aim-9L and much better flight performance.
The Tornado IDS, already seen as a bad plane in the community, receives 2x Aim-9L with supersonic.
The SU-22M3/4 (SU-17M4) with same BR, receives 6x (!) R-60M(K) with supersonic.
The SU-24M with same BR, receives 4x R-60M with supersonic.
The MiG-27M/K with same BR, receives 4x R-60M with supersonic.
You’re sub-sonic and by the time you get to the Battlefield the bases are gone. So you’re left with the bread crumbs and even those…the AAM’s are easily flared.
You’re best defense are the guns.
If you put it at 10.3 in ARB it might be able to complete with things like the SU-25K and A-10A, but anything higher than that is BS.
Admittedly I can’t say much about RB, as I fly Sim EC almost exclusively, but there the AMX A-1A is really very good and fun to fly.
A lot of people complain about the Piranhas, but I have no issues with them (except with IRCM-equipped Su-39’s). I don’t find them particularly more flare-hungry than Magic’s or 9-Limas. Performance-wise I see them somewhere between Python 3 and Magic 2…
It’s certainly one of those aircraft that are better suited for Sim than RB just because how those game modes work - but then that’s the case for most of the attackers, I’d say.
