Historically it had both - but good question - which ones already got 229
It should be as simple as changing the name and thrust values. Or at the very least just copy and pasting the 229 from the F-15I over to the F-15E - whatever that entails.
Someone already posted it above, also you can check photographs of some of the serial numbers in wikimedia Category:F-15E Strike Eagle by serial number - Wikimedia Commons
ok so it may means US F-15E on Devs are 87-0169 and it’s F100-PW-220 or 220E? Then GGs
Wiki is not a source and serial is not indicative of its capabilities. Those numbers are invalid until they serial every jet and specific the date reference of them.
My main problem with the serial number argument is that it’s simply based on a skin.
Gaijin can simply change the skin and then upgrade the engine. This is especially true since the majority of F-15Es at the time of this F-15E’s service (~2006-2010 due to JHMCS and GBU-39s) had 229 engines.
Pair this with the fact that the F-15I will simply do exactly what they tried to prevent the F-15E from doing AND the fact that F-15Es from other squadrons were using 229 engines, and there’s zero reason not to just give the F-15E its 229s (other than to force us to grind another one out - ie. a cashgrab).
Gaijin cannot sit back and act like it’s out of their hands when they literally CHOSE the variant we got. This “balance” they hope to achieve by nerfing the F-15E is completely nullified by the fact that they are adding the F-15I.

I will give a point there lol
Im about remotorization.
I mean if we want to go back even further, didn’t the T-80s not have thermals in game until they were added later down the line because modern versions carried them? Same logic?
Ingame T-80U not soviet tbh, different engine, shell, thermals.
The only reason they are not giving the 15E -229 is to make people grind the 15I like other people said, which in turn is only unattractive because Gaijin is allergic to adding domestic israeli a2g weaponry.
The F-15E with the -220 engines just seems like a hangar warmer, no reason to use it outside of sim.
It has its place in GRB
I would use it in GRB if it had better engines to turn and burn
I mean it’ll definitely still be good in Ground RB. I’m just upset the F-15E can literally use 229 engines and most were built with them installed yet Gaijin feels the need to needlessly nerf it.
Well
Israel one still will be attractive, even if add 229s to US one - way more CMs
I very much prefer the F-16C for GRB. better pod and flight performance beats a couple extra bombs for me.
only for air RB though.
For ground rb it also might be debatable - if gaijin will allow mach1+ drops - israel one will be better/on level.
Spoiler
Tbh maverics mostly useless
I will be taking both the F-15E and the F-16C
The F-15E is labeled as a Strike Fighter, and the F-16C is labeled as a Jet Fighter.
This means that when I spawn the F-15E the SP cost of the F-16C does not increase (and vice-versa). Two CAS spawns for much less SP.
I also take the F-15C, so if I need CAS from the F-15E and die I can spawn a full CAP/anti-CAS loaded F-15C or F-16C.
Here’s my GRB lineup:
I have yet to be bothered in any capacity by countermeasures in any of my top tier SPAAs.
I guess that is a way to look at it. I mostly stay on the ground and thus play for that (aka little scouting, mostly in the middle doing MBT stuff), so I don’t really spawn air more than once per game. That is also why I only use 2 of my US crew slots for air. However I might throw an MBT out if the F-15E gets the good engines.
