Recently i unlocked the F14A and thought it might be really good seeing so many fakour kills early in the game well before most aircraft get within merging range but, after a couple of games ive scored a total of 6 kills, with one of them being with pheonixes and the rest being gun kills. So am i missing something? i try launching pheonixes around 30-40km with a bit of a loft and guide them to pitbull with TWS, but they just dont hit at all. Am i playing it too far, too close, or just missing something important with pheonixes? i wanted to know if anyone could help me maybe use it better to its abilities.
Phoenixes are not Fakours, Fakours are FAR faster and go active far closer to the target giving next to no time to react. Anybody who knows what they are doing will go defensive as soon as the get F-14 track scans showing on their RWR, which makes life pretty hard on the other F-14s.

They’re not as good as they use to be pick your shots wisely and don’t always spam them also don’t take 6, take at least two aim7f or three. Aim54 can be launched from 10-40 miles but when shooting 10-30 miles make sure they’re still heading towards you or the radar won’t pick them and you want the radar to help the aim54 but it being 20g it’s dosent always works. and long ranges same thing make sure they’re heading towards you till it pitbulls and for people who are notching hard lock them (Especially when they’re close 10 to 15 miles or even further and you want guarantee the kill) also try to shoot people below you so it’s harder to notch works well with aim7 too. also aim54 are practically just aim7 just with worse g limits and have the ability to shoot while not hard locking and are arh… hopefully that helps if it makes sense it what I do I manage 4 kill games sometimes

Its all about picking the right targets. A half competant player (That is paying attention and not watching netflix on the other screen cough cough) will never get killed by a Aim-54. So you need to target those in weak positions, like those climbing high or those clearly mindlessly base bombing. Make sure to also fire from up high against these, as it will mitigate multipathing
Though this is purely assuming you got a downtier
