I’ve often wondered it too. I will get one or two great games, 4+ elims, Survivor, best on the leaderboard kind of thing. Then I get hit with uptier after uptier, while my entire team practically eliminated themselves on the runway.
Gaijin has not said anything about SBMM, but neither did Call of Duty for the longest time.

It might also be based on how many kills you get per round. I noticed that I only get 2-3 kills I will get placed on low skill teams (Playing scout is a pain in this case) or if I get a lot of kills I get placed in high skill teams.
Sounds like you are just going crazy to me.
You have one or two bad games so you get concious of it or annoyed at it, and start focusing more in a bad way and it causes you to continue to do poorly which gets you more frustrated and notice the little niggly things more often, which frustrate you far more than they normally would because you are already frustrated.
Its not the game punishing you, its in your head. Best bet is to take a break from the game, play something else, and come back tomorrow.
Its a pretty common thing to have happen. Doesnt just happen in warthunder, often happens in many PVP games to everyone. It definitely happens to me.

Im not US main, i main britian but play germany Sweden and america for various vehicles. The leo killed me in my spawn from his own spawn.

It’s just you and your overthiniking brain trying to create some patern from random events.
If you want to learn from your tactical mistakes in battle, jump to Academy section, share replay from battle and ask for opinion from other players.
No, premium account will not give you any special powers in battle (you even mentioned you are supporting game development by using premium account - thanks!), permium vehicles will give you more SL and RP, but will not magicaly make you immune to mistake or/and dying from more skilled players.
If you want to discuss more, please focus on War Thunder on this forum. If you want to discuss other games, you need to search their dedicated forums (if they even have any).

Don’t despair. The absurd ricochets and ridiculous damage happen to all nations and all tanks. The least affected are tanks with APHE, and the most affected are those with HEAT and HEAT-FS, regardless of the country.
For quite some time now, playing with tanks that don’t use APHE is like playing roulette. If you’re lucky, you do something, and if not, you get an absurd ricochet or ridiculous damage and die. If you want to enjoy the game from Br6.7 onward, you literally have to stop thinking and just play, regardless of whether you always die or not. The game lets you kill someone. If you obsess over trying to kill, you’ll only despair.
