Stormer IFV (Helio FVT 925-T)
Vehicle Design History:
In an attempt to generate possible sales for the improved CVR(T) derivative the Stormer, multiple turret configurations were offered. One such option was provided by Helio, with their FVT 925 turret system. They had initially envisioned the turret being mounted on the Stomer platform as its basic carrier, with later options to be provided by client requirement for example the M113 platform.
The 925-T turret possessed a single Tow Launching tube, which could be reloaded whilst under armour, along with either an Oerlikon KBA or Hughes M242 bushmaster as required. The launcher rested at a 55-degree elevation but could be aimed up 20 degrees and down 7 degrees from this position as necessary. The 25mm cannon could be elevated +55 degrees and down to -7 degrees allowing it to engage both ground targets and possible enemy aircraft such as helicopters.
The turret also possessed day/night sights for the main gun, and only normal sights for the TOW launcher. The vehicle also had the potential to be fitted with thermals as by the clients request. A 7.62mm GPMG was also fitted coax to the 25mm cannon. In order to prove the viability of the turret system, Helio had it fitted to the Stormer platform, to create a proof of concept, but there was little interest in the Stormer derivative of this platform. Ultimately the turret would eventually see service though, as it attracted the interest of the Philipines armed forces for the use on their Simba IFV vehicles.
