Backups are a very useful feature in Arcade, Ground Realistic, and Naval Realistic battles, however they have no uses in Air Realistic or Air Sim. Additionally, Gaijin had added daily universal backups that override the option to use universal backups, which can prevent casual players from ever using the backups they earn on a vehicle.
The Suggestion:
I am suggesting to add a button in the vehicle backup menu under the “Activate” and “Purchase” buttons that will allow you to exchange the backups you have equipped to free repairs for that vehicle.
Clicking on that button will bring up a slider similar to the one below, allowing you to choose how many you want to convert.
Benefits:
Players who don’t play Arcade or Ground battles will now be able to exchange their aircraft backups into something more useful.
With the addition of daily universal backups, players may not ever get the chance to use all of their backups on a vehicle, severely limiting their value.
Players who have hundreds of universal backups saved up will now have a way to use all of them.
Saving a few thousand SL per death will help players keep more of their SL
Free backups for premium aircraft would be much more valuable, because they will now have a use if you primarily play Air Realistic.
+1 from me, with the new daily backups I’ve collected a ton of the universal backups, so to be able to effectively exchange them for more SL would be a great change.
no. Why? first because then it’s too easy to have insane repair costs with the excuses that you can sacrifice back-ups to avoid them. Second, back-ups are here to incentivize you to play longer and repair cost to play more conservatively. Back-ups are very easy to obtain because they are positive, remove that positivity, and they’ll go from being a convenience to a consumable.
Just because you have no use for them doesn’t mean they aren’t useful to the rest of the playerbase and beneficial to the game.
i don’t know how air sim works, but in your case i think the backup simply should allow you to spawn the vehicle back (for free), as a normal back-up does in regular battles.

I don’t remember when did I obtain 22 backups, I still don’t have the yak-1B spaded to this day because I simply didn’t play it!
some battle trophies have a bunch of backups for the nation/rank you where playing, regardless of if you used them in the battle or not.
For example from a naval battle I just did:
you can also make it so free repairs are only used if you die or are written off, since 1 7.5mil mac round can leave your rudder piss yellow but it would still consume a free repair.
