Very common damage on the T series is driver + autoloader + engine (somehow), you can still shoot back.
If the same happend to the Abrams, driver + turret basket + engine, you’re dead.
Eh same thing it’s not “turning off the brakes” because that’s not how the autoloader operates, the braking is done by the motor which works as a brake in one direction and a motor in the other. If the autoloader were actually separate it would have to be able to work as a motor in both directions.
The main case where these shots happen that you “survive” is when the shot is very low, which is also why in the case of Merkava the fact that it’s “just” a floor (the sides mostly aren’t actually on the damage model, same goes for most turret baskets) means nothing as the cases where it matters are where you’d be hitting that floor anyways
Pre turret basket the trick was to actually take the shot to the side as the shot could only either disable the turret or the driver/engine, unless they got lucky and cut the track too, it was crazy hard to disable both the mobility and combat capability in one hit, but it’s been ages since I played much Abrams, so I have no idea how functional that tactic is these days.
Nope, the stopper and motor are 2 separate units, this is the AZ,

And here is the MZ

Im gonna assume your were talking about my bug report about the turret drives, and i’m just gonna say, they modeled the “basket” pretty accurately.
