Hello everyone,

I’d like to suggest the addition of the Algerian Navy flag as a for use on ships in War Thunder.

Background

Algeria has a long naval tradition, with a history of confronting multiple Mediterranean powers over the centuries.

Centered in Algiers, the navy of the Regency was a major maritime force in the Mediterranean. It frequently engaged with the fleets of Spain, France, Britain, Sweden, United States and many other European powers, demonstrating strategic naval capabilities and controlling key maritime zones. These engagements shaped the naval balance in the Mediterranean sea for centuries.

By the early 19th century, the navy of Algiers faced growing pressure from European powers, culminating in the French invasion of 1830.

After independence, Algeria rebuilt its naval forces, drawing on this historic maritime experience. Supported by the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the navy expanded to include submarines, frigates, corvettes, and amphibious vessels. Today, it is one of the most capable navies in Africa, tasked with defending Algeria’s Mediterranean coast, protecting shipping lanes, and securing offshore energy infrastructure.

The flag

The Algerian Navy flag features a vertical split of green and white. Along the centerline sits a red crescent encircling a red five-pointed star, while two white crossed fouled anchors occupy the upper corner, symbolizing the naval service.

The Algerian Navy’s first Romeo-class submarine, flying its naval ensign in 1981. It was later sunk, despite having been preserved for a time as a museum ship at Mers El Kebir under the efforts of Captain Necib, its former commander.

He chose to give a final tribute to the submarine by having it towed and sunk 3,000 meters deep off the port city of Oran, at the very spot where he and his crew had nearly lost their lives in a deep-sea incident in 1983.
