If by “amazing” you mean “everyone not playing a CV will hate you, but atleast you can enjoy ruining the fun for everyone else”, then sure, it would be “amazing”

Just like any surface ship IRL in the pacific war. Finally something even remotely realistic in the game

Well, against submarines, carriers could carry enough helicopters to keep their team safe from them.

how do you control a squadron of planes? are going to go to world of warships routes? RTS style gameplay where CV acts like an arty?

bruh i knew it… it is world of warships all over again

How so?

I don’t advocate for a direct copy of either of the WoWS CV models. AA is also much more effective in WT than it is in WoWS. And I’d imagine that the takeoff and landing procedures in WT would be a bit more intensive than WoWS’s

I don’t see how you watched that video and concluded “just like WoWS”

Would you care to elaborate? This is the perfect place to talk about possible player controlled CV’s in depth after all

What for do you all need Carriers if you just need air wings instead of single planes.

That is a whole different topic. One does not and should not exclude the other. Carriers are more than just an alternative to CAS.

So what are they, if not floating airfield?

A vehicle type people would like to play, because they’re cool.

Why is player AA a thing when you can spawn a fighter?
Why are Heli’s a thing if CAS aircraft exist?

Just because one vehicle type exists doesn’t disqualify the interest in other vehicle types

If you cannot comprehend this, please just leave this topic be

What play, launch airgroups, standing on respawn getting pommeled by big ships or behind the island? Why you even need player controlled carrier for that? Enlarged in recent updates maps clearly showed us how it led to more passive gameplay. WT ain’t gonna make maps not flat as in IRL, where carriers and other ships could use this advantage.

If goal is to grind carriers who carry rank I-II planes versus endwar, afterwar ships, i bet it will attract only a small numbers of new players.

From gameplay perspective CV ain’t gonna bring anything what airgroups wouldn’t bring, but just unnecessary complications in realization of such class.

As far as i can tell, you need to be more realistic on what game have and what could be added with limited resources. But for sure “a man can dream”.

the rts style aircraft controls is what really “wows” the mechanics

this open to a new can of worms, can other players land and resupply on you? if yes what is the difference between individually player controlled plane and your rts style squadron group

Sure just as a strange bonus feature that you can take advantage off when needed. Could see some clans using it as a mobile base to mop up ships in enduring confrontation.

I don’t really suggest a direct control “RTS” style I think.
I’m also not a proponent for direct control over large airgroups where they’d “follow the leader” if a player was to take control of an aircraft.

In my vision the commands you could give the AI squadrons would be a lot more generic. Such as “go to this square, attack first target” or “follow last group, attack largest target” stuff like that. Maybe through a system similar to the Y or T menu’s.

Though that’s going to be a big question for playable carriers.

On the question of player resupply. I think it would be cool if that was an option. Maybe drain some of the carrier’s supply with each plane. Maybe restrict it to squadmates only or even same nation only.

As for the difference between one player controlled aircraft and the entire carrier’s complement. It should be pretty obvious no?

have you seen the ai enemies in assault arcade mode?

I’m well aware that the quality of AI would be a major hurdle for player carriers.

But I do want to mention that there already is a very rudimentary user mission that uses the x+1/2/3 target designation to designate targets for different aircraft types. Though I don’t quite understand how that works.
