She was laid down, which is the requirement for inclusion in WT.
Any clue what planes or bombers she’d carry?
It doesn’t say :(
That project was cancelled before work started, and crucially that work included starting the development of aircraft types w/ which to supply the proposed ship. Since the function of carriers is tied to their use of aircraft, I sincerely doubt that the Izmail-conversion is viable to appear in WT since there 's no performance data w/ which to model it 's airgroup. The original battlecruiser form might be possible though.
It 's also why I’m not sure what can be done w/ DE outside of Graf Zeppelin - those attempted after it 's first cancellation were expected to rely on new variants of the Ju 87 for deck use, rather than the Fiesler aircraft. But Junkers development projects of those variants failed to produce them.
I wish Gaijin just remade the original carrier design as well as little people animations. Cause the ship feels soulless. But also lacks the gritty feel making it seem sparkly clean.
Fair enough. And while i am here. What about the aviation conversions for the ise, mogami, tone, and agano? Would those count as pseudo carriers?
Jumping in mid-conversation, but the Ise pair of conversions are definitely carriers, or rather “battlecarrier” hybrids. The Tone pair were aviation cruisers from the start, but not “carriers” in that they don’t have flight decks; this is also what Mogami became.
Tone in WT is her late refit which removed the rear aircraft storage for more AA positions, but the devs really need to give her the scout planes she can still obviously carry and use in her still-present aviation handling area. Whenever we see the ship-launched planes mechanic expanded to allow “reloading” of spare aircraft (many currently modelled) I’d love to see her sister Chikuma added in an earlier refit with all the planes.
As for the Aganos, I don’t think any of that class were similarly converted? Are you thinking of Ooyodo, the single ship of her class which came after them? She was another aviation cruiser, and one of the few missing Japanese cruiser classes in WT.
Yeah that sums it up. thank you
And yeah i was talking about the Ooyodo.
Thanks :)
I haven’t seen anything new abt carriers since the last devserver, but autumn-winter is usually the heaviest time when it comes to new additions in WT - we probably won’t be waiting long to hear something else.
Seems like I accidentally predicted the addition of the Izmail battlecruiser though, that was a pleasant surprise.
I somewhat forgot this thread existed, but, carriers!
I wanted to share the thread I made on the Project Orel that I made, a 70s Soviet aircraft carrier (read: heavy aircraft carrying cruiser) that was close to being laid down but would ultimately never come to pass.
This mostly came about because of the new/upcoming naval strategy game Sea Power, since it included the Orel (below). It made me think that, “hey, if Sea Power, an extremely grounded and realistic-seeming game, can include the Orel for mission creation and unit diversity, why can’t War Thunder?”
So, I wanted to know what you guys think about it! I was not thinking of it as “playable,” instead I was thinking of it as a mission setpiece/spawn point. It could be useful for big battle air maps, in my mind when I was creating it was the Denmark Air Sim map, and I think would just generally be really cool.
Im gonna need to read through this thread it seems… I’m thinking of suggesting some reintroduction or better implementation of the Air sim maps that feature large bodies of water, such as Denmark. I’d love to see the carrier stop being a barely defended mobile airfield, and start seeing carrier groups that need to have all their escort vehicles destroyed over time before the carrier can be struck safely.
Relevant here too:
Tbh it is rather infuriating that the War Thunder Mobile App, has more indepth vehicles of differing types than what is available in normal War Thunder, it was supposed to be that normal got Submarines, aircraft carriers and such before Mobile (not the other way round).
Well WTM is being used as a test platform, it’s more like arcadey game than realistic game like WT. For example, AF D3 (yep, that 3.3 slow ass german naval barge) is being placed in top tier of WTM naval combat and surprisingly it’s capable to destory battleship and even missile cruiser. The WTM naval is extremely goofy and unbalance, it’s tech tree is even harder to grind than WT, oh btw you can even get time limited offer that allow you buy top tier ship directly (Ofc u need to pay real money). So I sold my soul to the snail so I can actually try some of the submarine and missile ship in WTM. And I have to say they are freaking OP and unbalanced but thankfully this is a mobile game so gaijin can do whatever shit they want and players wouldn’t complain, which wouldn’t happened in WT. So don’t feel jealous because WTM get some shiny new stuff, just pray and hope those submarine, missile ship and aircraft carrier will come in WT in a balance status soon™.
During my first time playing WT, I was surprised to see that there weren’t any aircraft-carriers in this game…at least, none that could be acquired. Personally, I dismiss the one in Enduring Conflicts and the light-cruisers that can launch planes, but that’s just me being nit-picky.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get far in WT, but I can imagine how they would operate, and I think it would be interesting. Might require a map bigger than what I experience in Enduring Conflict, but I think it can be done.
Those barges are already ingame for german coastal with the same 88’s or bigger guns. But warthunder mobiles damage model for ships is like world of warships from what I have seen so that they work on mobiles.
Yes, I know, I own it in WT naval, it wouldn’t even stand a chance against reserve destoryer. Thus I said WTM is arcadey game like WOWS.
An additional change was made in the most recent update:
This one comes from entities_wtm.blkx
from hudbuttonsview.nut
Hmm. good update Hen. Maybe we are closer to carriers in WTM than we expect. I’m just hoping they come to the Base Game too.
