I mean we have such a system in sim ec.
If you don’t select a certain airfiled it’s random.
So you don’t force anyone onto a specific ones, and all are equidistant from where you might want to go.
Also saying less players is an arcade feature is baffeling, since irl most engagements between fighters is far less than a 16 vs 16.
Just those day 0 / 1 strikes are massively more than that.
But even then looking at day 0 of Iraq 2003, you had 3 waves of 2 helis, so 6 total, or on another area 2 nighthawks in total, which together achived 2 mission goals.
Eliminate a section of air defence and high priority targets.
both should be enough to win a game, but yes, rquires a complete remodel of the game.
Or with ground to air in operation praying mantis 2 iranian F4’s were flying together and attaked.
not 16.
Additionally it’s about decluttering the airspace, not becoming more competitive because smaller teams.
Because the density of planes for km² is extremely high in War Thunder, compared to irl.
So it’s arcady to have such a concentration of action on such a small space.
The issue is it has to be perfectly random.
If there are 4 airfields, you have to have a maximum of 4 players per airfield [or 3 with 12 players], and it has to be random.
It’s not fun to be forced away from your squad mate via airfields.
It’s easier when you both spawn in air.
If you think wargames are faught with e-Sports numbers of aircraft… that’s inaccurate.
Real militaries aren’t e-Sports.
i dont see why or how it has to be random to force people to pick different spawns. Air SB shows this quite well, where teams are usually spread out across different spawns.
it doesn’t. Also perfectly random basically doesn’t exist for PC’s.
Tactics of spawning at a specific place still could apply.
So the enemy doesn’t know where the majority is, same goes for the oposite sit.
It’s just another tactics.
Therefore just spawn squads together, if all is random.
Yes, it’s even more competitive than E-Sports. It’s more than a game, or a competition.
Also I wasn’t talking about wargames, but actual conflics.
Big wargames are only simulated.
Here’s the scenario: One team picks all 3 spawns. 5 - 6 players per airfield.
The other team picks 1 airfield, all 16 players in a giant wolf pack.
The team that picks 1 airfield wins 100% of the time due to better teamwork inherently from the spawn.
Games should not ever be dictated by spawns.
Ground RB has this issue to a lesser extent since ground maps aren’t 120x120km.
War Thunder is here to simulate war games, not reenact wars, nor reenact logistics.
We aren’t “spawning” at home bases. We’re “spawning” into combat. Which was forward airfields, but most militaries don’t even use forward airfields anymore. They go into battle already in the air a lot of cases.
However, both forward airfields, and “air spawn” are both realistic things that have been used and are plausible to be used again in the future.
This already exists – it’s one of the Moscow variations. I think it’s the “1941” version (but I wouldn’t be sure until I get it again as I don’t memorise all variation names). There are three airfields (and only two mini-bases). Until recently I’m sure you could choose any of the three, but my last memory of it was that two of them were always selected as one (and random which one you took off from), but the third was selectable on it’s own. Players then basically take off from all three airfields.
(this was before Tusk update so maybe changed now).
No - the update changed basically all 3 bases maps. The infamous Mozdok map with airfields in artillery range and all other so called “Frontline” maps - even on the Poland map (also 3 bases) all planes have airspawn now.
It doesn’t come up often, but it’s nice to have the “oh wow, we actually get a choice” feeling… and then the gameplay is quite different to the usual map style now.
There were a few 2 airfield maps too, where you could choose… I think a “France” labelled one and Hurtgen (but not the current Hurtgen one) ? (but I think they’re no longer around)
For me, particularly, with this Tusk update, the default airspawn on so many more maps is definitely a continuing disappointment in the progression of AirRB. It’s been colloquially called Arcade+ for many years, but now one-life-arcade might be more valid unfortunately.
The second match was quite entertaining.
The usual airfield camping and a pretty nice 2 vs 3. I witnessed an excellent 109 pilot fighting 2 Cannonstangs at the same time -rare case👍
