AIM9L flare resistancy

R-60M is still extremely easy to flare.

xD

9L is usually a 1 flare defeat in game

IRL, if you were sat on full reheat, large calibre flares would do nothing. They are a fraction of their IRL performance.

AIM-9L flare resistance

When they were first introduced, this was partially the case and they had actually decent flare resistance (this is what the thread is talking about) then in early 2023, they got nerfed really really hard and then spent the next 6 or so months in an extremely poor state until they were partially rebuffed. Still not as good as they were, but better. That is the state we still have today.

But without a doubt, unless you are making it a really really easy shot for the 9L. They are extremely easy to 1 flare defeat

Unfortunate curse of the totally fake modeling of the BOL. This should actually be a very good thing, but alas, it just makes BOL flares even worse.

Python 3s have the axact same seeker as 9Ls. Both IRL and ingame.

Just because you have massive skill issues and expect them to hit a guy at 3KM doesn’t make them bad.

Correct! The reason the P3 is better in this regard is its flight characteristics… its the same reason PL-5B is as well

You can check anybodys stat card at any time :)

The post is about flare resistence, not overall missile stats you muppet.

And you can bend yourself backwards and pat yourself on the back for having above average stats but you are still wrong.

So let me reiterate, just because you have massive skill issues doesn’t mean that the 9L is bad.

YES, AND HAVING A BETTER FM OFTEN LEADS TO BETTER FLARE RESISTANCE…

So like i said

Not using them myself or watching them in tac view.

BOLs in general are just extremely nerfed in game. its well known that the BOL flare charges are equal to or superior to standard NATO countermeasure charges, yet, in game, they have inferior emission and burn time and their means of dispensing is just wrong to boot.

BOLs are insane IRL and should be in game as they are really capable devices that are horrifically gimped by gaijin after their nerfs.

Yeah… Even chaff didn’t escape the nerfs. With them literally being modeled with 1/4 the mass as they should have

i got 3 aces with the F-5A(G) in the same day

which proves nothing

The F-5A(G) is already tenatively under BRed when compared to both the F-5C and F-5E with weaker AAMs and the F-5s are overperforming rather significantly in a number of ways, first and foremost being their cold fusion engines which makes flaring IR threats especially trivial for it. In contrast, you have aircraft like the FRS1e at 10.7 with the same AAM and CM loadout but both subsonic and so hot that flaring anything is hard work. So the F-5A(G) cannot go down in BR.

Aim-9Ls are certainly underperforming in terms of flare resistance but so is everything and largely the problem is one of how IR signatures are modeled in game or rather the lack of any specific modeling. Though this will be a double edged sword for the F-5A(G). Whislt it will likely make Aim-9Ls stronger, it will also make the F-5s far more vulnerable to IR missiles than they are currently and likely be a net nerf for it.

TLDR: The F-5A(G) wont get a BR drop and I dont think there is much in the way of buffs it can get. But there are more than a few nerfs it should get.

where do you get the source for the flare resistance? but overall I agree with your points…

Gunjob previously provided it on the old forums
