Aim-120 might be due to the CAPTOR-M being a bit buggy at the moment and so the DL isnt supporting the shot great.

Chaff might be because it might be modeled as BOL (which is correct but not sure if it has had that change or not) . But BOL is modeled to be 1/4 the size its supposed to be modeled as. Report

So I’m not tweaking about AIM120Bs feeling like shit on the Typhoon FGR.4

Even my 9Ms feel like ass. They’re acting more like 9Ls and then the 9Ls are acting like how 9Ms used to be. I’ve had more luck using Ls than using the Ms.

Eh… Persoanlly I always feel like Aim-9Ms are bad most of the time and are only strong in niche situations.

Aim-120… Im not sure, not played it a huge amount yet, but the CAPTOR-M is certainly buggy and that is likely having an impact. Ive barely started spading it though and gunna give it a few days, maybe another week before trying again (I play sim as well and a decent radar is needed for that, let alone a whole host of bugs affecting the Typhoon in Sim specifically as well)

Well 9Ms are 9Ms and 120s are 120s, once they’re off the rail there’s no connection in their code to their launch aircraft. With 120s there is a possibility that it’s at least partially a DL issue, but the 9Ms not so. Likely just a combination of negativity bias and small sample size plus the learning curve of adjusting to a new airframe. Also possibly BR 14.0, which means you’re rarely encountering 13.0s that don’t have the same weapon capabilities as yourself.

For typhoon I can’t seem to see BOL as an option (I don’t have it), is it a mod or what cause it isn’t in the loadout menu. Same for Rafale.

For the Typhoon, BOL is intergrated as part of the DASS. So cant be removed. Its unlcoked and equipped as part of the MAWS mod. (really needs that added to the tooltip of that mod)

This is why there is a chance its not actually coded as BOL at the moment.

Rafale, Im not sure it has BOL but I dont have it unlocked nor looked much into it yet

Thx. Two additional questions:

  1. Can u dictate how many chaff vs flare in BOL pods
  2. How many CM does it then have in total

Yes, BOL can be either flares or chaff (though BOL IRL isnt flares its more like a cloud of chaff that produces an IR signature)

Typhoon has 64 Large Calibre CMs and 320 BOL. (160 per pod)

I mean can u have like within each BOL pod have both chaff and flare, or does it have to be all flare/chaff?

Yeah, you can have whatever mix you want

Thx, I am going for likely British air next so yeah, currently have no BOL planes. Although I still think ECM should be modelled at some point, cause for more modern aircraft, and the newer missiles, chaff is more and more insignificant.

Yeah, ECM would make quite a difference for quite a few aircraft. Few went quite as CM crazy as Britain did. Tornado GR4 can carry 600 flares and 600 chaff. Its a tad insane.

That being said. BOL should be the most effective flares in game, they were designed to defeat IIR seekers by producing a huge cloud of IR material. They actually look like this IRL:

Its a shame they are very very nerfed in game

I did see how they work IRL, although polyphoric flares also function really well. My issue is that with things like Su33, 48 CM is just useless. I mean less so for Su33 it self but more so for J15 cause it have an actually doable radar and PL12, and 48 CM would limit the capability hugely.

Yeah, it is a fair concern of BOL and I get why they mitigated it for the Gripen. Just really frustating on aircraft like the Tornado F3 and the amount they nerfed it by. QUite often I find myself dropping dozens of BOL chaff to defeat an ARH missile where It would only take something like an F-15 a few.

Yeah, although I think I’d really rather have 600 BOL chaff even more than 56 large calibres lol.

Honestly, depends on the airframe :D

My record was 150 BOL chaff to defaet a single AMRAAM when I was in the FA2 in a GRB match (I only had 200 chaff total. so that was 3/4 my chaff load to deal with 1 missile) . I’ve had many times where I’ve dropped 30-40 chaff with the missiel coming at me from my 5 or 7 oclock and nothing. Missile has still hit me. But in the GR4 with its large calibre chaff, the same missile would have been defeated with 5 or 6 large chaff

Would almost prefer having to do extreme CM management than deal with BOL sometimes
