Aim-9Ms were only ever “dechirped” so Aim-9Ms should only have those lock ranges. But they would be such a nice little bone to throw Britain for its 9Ls too

Pl5e2Magic 2 and pl8b have theur incredibly fast acceleration and good maneuverability.
Aam 3s are the best all rounders.
R73s have tvc.

I agree, but I don’t think the solution is to ask the missile to make 40 Gs because one source says so. This is just to get to the point of talking about the r-73 and asking for aim-9x, which makes no sense.
Yeah… This in my opinion is the bigger reason for wanting something better. Aim-9Ms are just a bit… niche… And their biggest strength cant be exploited most of the time

Maneuverability is fine. If they had their real headon lock ranges they would have a niche thanks to the smokeless motor
so only 5-10g more than aim120 is what you’re saying?
it’s useless, the type of irccm was useless to have more lock range
they already have that (in simulator tho)

Yes, but what will matter next is the attack angle capability
Yeah, but if the target is on AB, its a 3km front aspect lock. If they arent on AB, you cant lock in front aspect.
So its easy to see them coming. If I could use IRST to track a target in the Typhoon and then fire an Aim-9M at more like 7 or 8km. Then theyd never see it coming. Too many times to count have I had a target in range, maybe even in the LSZ and I cannot fire because it wont lock on

my point is that it will be easy to get kills with it at first, but then it gets harder over time as ppl learn and start to expect those front aspect 9Ms
especially with the better and better radars we are seeing on aircraft, it might be pointless to try staying undetected by simply turning off your own radar
not even to mention MAWs which an increasing number of jets has and will get
I usually keep myself at altitude in sim so i dont get to use 9ms often. Rear aspect shots are usually kills eith everh fox 2 despite of smokeless motors and most people preflare in a merge so front aspect is a no go
Maybe, but beats the alternative of not even being able to fire because it wont lock on. And when the Aim-9M is the weakest WVR missile. It having its one niche area of gameplay so heavily nerfed is just annoying

Sure much like r73 tbc is beat easily by pre flaring thats not the point. Its about giving 9ms an interesting capabilty even if it isnt all that strong it would be a usefull tool
What capabilities does it no longer have, you need other versions
All IR missiles get beat by pre-flaring. The aim-9m can get preflared too, but the R-73 is way more resistant to flares

That’s purely front aspect report right?
Cause those in-game stats are front aspect ranges. Especially the 11.5km AB range, which is very much the current front aspect lock range.
