Howdy everyone! I was wondering, if the AIM-9P is radar salvageable, then can I in theory launch it in a head on attack, with radar lock; even though it is technically only rear-aspect?
Aim 9p is radar slaveable however it can’t be launched without a proper lock. The only aim 9p that can be launched in a head on is the aim 9p-4 found on the Thailand F 5E
Okay, but if I acquire lock, and maintain it, and the enemy does not flare, could it in theory work?
Yeah radar slaving usually helps if the enemy is pre flairing. But once you launch it your radar lock ceases to be a factor with missile guidance.
ight, ty for explaining
The P is on the very cusp of all aspect tech, with radar slaving it is capable of some “all aspect” shots (high side aspect). All around pretty good missile though.
If the enemy is using afterburners, you can acquire an IR lock with most rear-aspect missiles within 1 kilometers. Radar lock only helps against pre-flaring targets other than slaving the missile’s seeker.
Radar slavable doesnt equate to an IR lock
Alright, thank you all for answering!!
