As it stands, the f-14B is kinda bad. Although it gets BOL and improved engines compared to the IRIAF, Fakour 90s are such an upgrade that the f-14 is still outclassed at 13.0 compared to it. Since aim-54Cs are a lot worse than Fakours, I feel like it would make sense to rebalance the f-14B by improving it’s close range capabilities with the aim-9m. This would help differentiate the f-14B by making it more of a jack of all trades compared to the IRIAF.
Also, almost every other 13.0 has either come with IRCCM missiles or had them added recently, namely the J-8F which was recently given PL-5EIIs. Lastly, aim-9ms were operationally carried in the last few decades of the f-14’s life so there’s also a historicity angle to the idea.
