They hug the deck because of fox 3s, and to a lesser extent fox 1s, and at the tiers where the F-14A is it’s either one of the few jets with Fox 3s, or outclassed by planes with better ones. Giving it 9Ls would likely see it bumped up to 13.0 and while that would make it ever so slightly better you’ll get pulled up into Strike Eagle and EFT territory where it doesn’t have any chance to be fun.
Now I do agree with the B model receiving the 9M since it’s already at 13.0 and the Phoenix just doesn’t work as a real potent option.
Its been over a year and a half since you posted this and the situation just gets worse lol
F-15A is now 12.7 with 4x AIM-9M while both F-14A and B lag behind the competition with their BFM weapons. It blows my mind that F-14A is still restricted to AIM-9H when its now 13.0. F-14B is in a slightly better spot but constantly fighting aircraft that have IRCCM missiles and HMD while its best IR is a just a stock missile for others at the same BR is a joke

U can give them an artificial “IRCCM” by launching them at 1km, that’s the ideal parameter.

yeah for not being a dedicated IRCCM missile, they have pretty decent flare rejection in the rear quarter. I still think however that the F-14A at 13.0 really needs a sidewinder that pulls more than 18Gs
