AIM-120C-5 underperforming report disscusion

means the motor is probably realistic in game, however they should work on the seeker and make it better

the 120A is superior to the C-5 in most cases, no reason to take the C-5s really

AIM-9C is also from the 1964. AMRAAM-5 is from 1997

same as asking for sekrit documents

could just give it better notch resistance

No smoke whatsoever

Clearly a marketing lie

At high altitude too, damn

Hate to be that guy but :
Video exposition is terrible
Video angle is not really good to actually see the smoke
You can still see smoke on the wing following the launch

So I won’t call that no smoke whatsoever.
It is true tho that some missiles, including the AIM120C should have low smoke motors but aren’t modeled in game

It’s probably warmer outside because other videos of high altituded shots show a lot of condensation

After further considerations and research, i’ve arrived to the conclusion that only the AIM-120D has a major HOBS capability improvement, HOWEVER this does not justify the AMRAAM pulling like a sparrow at closer ranges

Exactly. Looks like its the heat vapor rather than smoke. If there was smoke you would see the smoke after the launch since the aircraft would fly directly past that smoketrail left by the missile. Its not impossible tho that there was smoke after the launch.

If you look at this video, you get an idea how much smoke an older amraam produces and if we had that kinda smoke in the video, I’m pretty sure we would see the trail after the launch. Sadly we don’t know what AMRAAM got used but the video is a couple years old and as far as I’m aware, they kept using older A/B variants for testing.

There is another video of a F22 launching a what looks like a smokeless AMRAAM but who knows what version got tested here. Its an old video as well and not the most clear visuals and a bad angle.

There is also recent videos like this one that shows an F-35 launch an AMRAAM but with a massive smoke trail. I think these are Aim120a’s or b’s used for testing.

Hard to tell really. Sadly there is no real life comparison videos between those missile and we all have to guess which version has smoke and which produces no or way less smoke

The AMRAAM that was used on that YF-22 was the B as they used the B 'till the C-3 arrived. Every AMRAAM has a low-smoke motor. Everything else is probably condensation. Every variant can produce condensation. The one in the F-35 can very well be a AIM-120D

Fair enough and good point. I just don’t think they use Aim120D’s for testing. Regardless your right tho condensation is always a thing and according to the internet, the aim120 should have a low smoke motor. I just wonder how much off a difference there is between the A, B, C3-7 or D.

Idk i used them in both long and close range the A seems to be doing a better job, if you get hit at ranges over 50km thats mostly due to not knowing how the game works

Yep, and thankfully. A lot of Americans don’t

I suppose all of those would be for the AIM-120D, right?

yeah

I’ve found literally nothing on hobs from primary source documents, only tertiary/supplementary sources which aren’t able to be used
