it got added a couple mins ago, use this to discuss about it.
Seems like a pretty big upgrade for american CAS in general but were gonna have to wait and see once it hits live
Also the 600m cruise altitude seems like it might be too high no?
Terrain follow helps, but I expect the new pantsir to take it out very easily as its subsonic
Depending on what the cruise altitude ends up being, it will at least be much more difficult to intercept, as it may not show up on radar until it’s just a few km away - even though it’s subsonic, having continuous impulse will keep reaction time relatively low
They’re fun to use if nothing else.
that’s what gaijin wants, we have russian cruise missile like atgms for ages but, america can get them same time with russia gets counter weapon. bUt of course tHeRE iS nO ruSZian biAS
Even if you only saw it at a kilometer away you still get slightly more than three seconds to react(top speed is 0.86, average cruise is ~0.82 to max range ); which is more than enough to slew a turret onto the oncoming missile and engage.
So it’s faster to a target than a Maverick (from a 0.9 Mach launch) past ~20km or so.
Considering that, generally AGM-84 is a anti-ship missile, I wonder if Gaijin will make it able to lock and track moving ground targets to be somewhat welcoming and improving to US close air support at top tier.
That precedent has been set with the KH-38MT & AGM-119A.
Of course a window to intercept it will exist, but it will be the lowest probability of intercept for any weapon available to the US, apart from JDAM-ERs launched from ~M1.0 at treetop height and 3-4km distance. Since that’s the only effective strategy available for SEAD/DEAD with US aircraft currently, the SLAM-ER should provide at least a nice alternative.
Boeing themselves have said that it can target moving targets on land. Boeing: Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response SLAM ER Home
Great but extremely late addition; we had to wait almost 2 whole years for it, while Russia enjoyed Kh-38s and complete CAS dominance. It’s an upgrade over Mavericks, but not one that will make any metas shift.
and the AASM Hammer.
the agm 84 added to the game is not the anti ship version.
A cruise missile in not the same as a regular air to ground missile that is usually powered by a rocket motor, but instead a jet engine
SLAMMER is not a anti-ship missile variant
first non-russian missile missile in WT’s history that has lofting and can one tap a tank.
not the version we have in the dev server.
the one in the dev server is the AGM-84H/K, an anti-tank variant of the anti-ship AGM-84. iirc it has (irl) IR + GNSS + DL(?)
correct me with this one, it’s been a long time since i searched for SLAM-ER’s info.
not strictly anti-tank, land attack in general vs. anti-ship
for now it seems like pantsir food
it follows the terrain and all, but it’s still a subsonic missile and still keeps pretty high altitude despite the terrain following feature (it stays like couple hundred meters above the ground)
this and the AGM-154A1 JSOW that got added in the current implementation isnt really meta defining or making CAS any easier. For the time being AGM-154A1 JSOW is just a cooler looking JDAM-ER and AGM-84H SLAM-ER is just fun to use.
Don’t take me wrong, I’m glad they added new stuff (that should’ve been added long ago but anyway), but it doesn’t really change anything. What I’m really waiting for are the GBU-53/B Stormbreakers that US should get in the same update the SPICE 250 got added to decent amount of jets. It’s literally the same in performance, except for US having slightly worse airframes than let’s say EF2000 or JAS39E.
