I believe that the GCS-1, a distinctive Japanese guided bomb, should be added to the F-2A. Japan has fewer CAS options than other countries, so adding the GCS-1 would provide a useful alternative. Regarding the number of bombs that can be carried, the GCS-1 does not require any modifications to be carried, so the F-2A can carry 18 bombs, which is the same number as the 500 lb bombs it can currently carry.
Sadly dont think they will. Best we can hope for is they model the ASM-2s properly and allow for ground use like the penguins
also would bring GCS-1 to other vehicles that had it! F-1, F-4EJ, F-2, T-2 + F-15Js? Thatβd give some much needed CAS to pretty much all of Japan Jet tier. As much as I love the Thai subtree, this is needed.
T-2 nor F-15J would be capable of carrying the GCS-1, the only 3 aircraft that would be capable of using it would be the EJ Kai, F-1, and F-2.
Up until recent efforts to upgrade em to multirole craft, the F-15J has been entirely dedicated to air defense with minimal ground support capability being provided by dumb bombs. The T-2 on the other hand is a trainer and lacks the equipment to use guided weaponry like that.
I really hope for this. It would give Japan a very strong-long range A2G missile, especially if they add the latest variant of it, the ASM-2B.
Anyways, all for adding GCS-1
They actually are. So, fun fact, the GCS-1 requires no additional wiring beyond what a regular mk. 82 does. Meaning literally anything that can use a mk.82 could theoretically mount a GCS-1. If japan bought Mirage F-1Cs like they wanted at one point, they literally couldβve strapped them on with no modification and they wouldβve worked lmao.
Now, yes, due to doctrine, the F-15J and T-2 did not mount them IRL, but itβs not that they were incapable of, japan simply chose not to.
