About Nuclear Escalation and the Bomber Damage Model by BVV_d

Oh, so nothing will be done to B-29 surviving a dozen 50mm shells or 4 Putara’s 3,1kg TNT warhead rockets to the wing.
Or 2 German 21 cm He rockets to the middle of the same wing?
19kg TNT combined is apparently not enough.
I dropped a 50kg bomb onto B-29’s wing, it stuck to it, I shot it with cannons, it exploded, the wing was still attached. Yeah.

Will have to try Tiny Tim, but I’m pretty convinced 67kg of TNT is still not enough.
edit: 67kg TNT in SAP-HE warhead is in fact enough, finally.

OK, so 9,5kg TNT x2 doesn’t kill, 5x RP-3 doesn’t kill, but a triplex rocket with 12,7kg of TNT is a guaranteed wing break. OK, makes no sense, as expected

Not sure how they are “mostly harmless”. They are the primary reason why everyone is flying at 50m.

And I’ve not seen them all wiped out yet

They rarely actually hit anything flying and are easily countered by just breaking the radar’s line of sight for a second

And then you see the players who are a couple of km’s up in the air over the centre of the map and because the S-300 fire control can only guide at a small handful of targets at the same time, they’re completely ignored. The AI is not very smart when it comes to prioritising targets.

And then the JSOWs start hitting, wiping them out.

Which is why everyone flies at low level. Not a lot of breaking LoS at 20k ft

Feels like they just fire at everything to me. I get 3+ launch warnings the moment my wheels leave the ground

Yeah, to easily counter any S300 launches

Those aren’t for you, they’re targeting other things and your RWR is picking up the launch signals

Right, so if at alt, you don’t actually know if one is coming for you or not

Don’t need to, just popping below the treeline for a second will clear all the incoming SARH missiles currently targeting you

And if I wanted to be that low, I’d play GRB.

Especially when basically your only stand off weapon is a glide bomb, flying that low heavily nerfs you too

Its not one or the other, you use both higher altitudes and lower altitudes.

Climb, fire off weapons, drop below the radar blind zones, reposition for next attack run, repeat. Easy

Yes, they are able to switch targets if a higher priority one shows up. Idk if you have noticed this or not, but when you shoot a HARM at an ITO-90 which already has a missile out on you, it will sometimes try to switch targets to the HARM and the missile will swing really hard only to end up missing it most of the time. The 2s6s do this as well, but not very often, since they tend to just abandon the missile they already have out. But the S-300s are capable of doing the exact same thing.

That is probably because of a bug that has been here since the first time we saw this mode back in April. Occasionally, all of the SAMs will track you through terrain and launch missiles at you. And since all the medium/long range SAMs in this mode as well as the OSA have their launchers either pointing up at an angle or straight vertical, they can lob the missile over the hill or mountain blocking you. I have had one time where I was flying through the valleys in the mountain range on the north side of the map and I got domed by the only S-300 left which was on the complete opposite side of the map. I got no RWR warning since the mountain was “blocking” the radar and my MAW only went off about 2 seconds before I exploded.

Except that’s not really the case. With the BUK-M1 sites, yes there is only 1 search radar. But every single launcher vehicle has its own radar, which can function as both a tracking AND search radar, so to knock out the whole site, you have to destroy every launcher vehicle. But with the I-HAWK, you can disable the whole site by just hitting the 2 search radars, the PAR and CWAR. The HAWK system is an old enough one that the track radar is track only, no search function.

Also the HAWK site has 2 search + 1 track, not 2 track + 1 search. The PAR (Pulse Acquisition Radar) and the CWAR (Continuous Wave Acquisition Radar) were the 2 search radars and they were designed to cover 2 different areas. The CWAR was to detect low flying targets which would be in heavy ground clutter, and the PAR was designed to detect everything else flying at medium to high altitude. It’s tracking radar was the HPIR (High Power Illuminator Radar). However, I am not sure if Gaijin actually modeled the 2 search radars in game for their specific purposes, or if they both just function as a generic search radar.

In the majority of the games I have been in, they are all gone within 30 minutes at the most. After that, you are free to fly as high as you want and just strike the convoys and strongholds and depots from orbit.

They for sure done at least something to them.

Sometimes when I notch + chaff hawk instantly bites for chaff. Other times I am shitting out chaff like there is no tomorrow + notching the launch warning + aggressively changing direction, to no avail whatsoever. Whether I am below or above horizon doesnt seem to matter in the slightest.

I would be kind of okay with the latter, but only sometimes it is actually the latter. And sometimes its as easy to notch as 7F/M.

This would be an issue with the tracking radar, not the search radars. Also at longer ranges you can just out pull it. I have even seen someone do it in the absolute brick that is the MIG-25. And it doesn’t even have to be at super long ranges either, I saw a video where someone dodged the HAWK missiles while just being 5 or 6 km directly above it.

Threshold is somewhere between 183 hesh and 203 he

Queue times at 11.3 and 11.7 are so bad that I had to bring av8 all the way up to 14.7. Faster strikers tend to grab targets quicker but at least I didnt have to wait 5-10 mins to get into battle.

I think it’s dead set on 10kg TNT. Below 10kg it does barely anything despite multiple strikes. Above 10kg it’s almost guaranteed wing break. Setting some ridiculous boundary on a number, instead of making it a scale, is typical Gaijin behaviour.

Same stuff with HE filler. German 30mm SAPHE shell has 63g charge and weights around 350g, it has 0 blast damage and absolutely sucks. Why? Because AP shells only deliver blast damage if they have 170g filler.

Yet somehow HE shell that weights 200g and has 16g of filler (so 8% of weight) and delivers blast damage and the explosion can take out entire turret crew. Explosion, not fragments.
Why isn’t it a scale based of filler to shell weight ratio? Because again, it’s easier to just type in 170g and it’s party time.

Meanwhile, overpressure/blast should rely BOTH on charge overal size AND charge to shell weight ratio.

Only time I got guaranteed wing break was in m55, 22 kg tnt hesh does this:

LS-6/50 bombs for China? Comparable to GBU-39/GBU-53/SPICE

Maybe you struck middle fuselage?
…or wing root, lol.
Anyway, when it comes to air launched rockets, 9,7kg TNT is not enough, you need like 4, while 12kg TNT will usually do the job in 1 hit.
Does it make any sense?
Not really.
Anyway, it’s absolutely ridiculous. Tu-2S best fighter of WW2.
