About Nuclear Escalation and the Bomber Damage Model by BVV_d

Are there any plans to introduce Weapons previously deemed to “Good” for Mixed battles for Escalation
Mainly thinking about Millimeter wave weapons for Aircraft and Helicopters to be exclusively used in Escalation don’t think AI cares about lack of counter’s

could i get links to these reports?

I really hope this fixes the rather ridiculous IR signature issues that several planes have.

F-5 fighters have little to no thermal signature while on full afterburner while aircraft known for being quite cold (most notably, HARRIER) are hot enough that not even the sun decoys non IRCCM missiles most the time.

Clusterbombs? A certain Tonka evangelist will have an easier time converting me if thats true.

Where is all the cope from “SAM/AA shot down all weapons” coping at is greatest cause jokes on AA with Broken missile proxy fuse, rain down hell upon these AA with even a agm65 STOP THE COPE

Could we see Nuclear Escalation in even lower tiers, like Korean war or WW2?

Instead of missile batteries you would have flak batteries.

Instead of RNG based aiming these heavy flak guns should try to predict the target’s future position and apply lead, if the bomber makes regular course changes they should be able to evade the flak.

The map would have large industrial zones as bombing targets each with enough hitpoints so that several bombers worth of payload is neccesary, this incentivizes players to fly in formations because 1. the objective is cooperative and 2. they benefit from shared protection.

Also, ground based radar (like early warning and fire control) would still be possible features in a WW2/Korean war setting. Bombers also made use of chaff and jamming.

Cheers

By the way, do you have plans for implementing rescuing downed pilots (including teammate ones) that managed to bail out in time?
Something similar to this ancient game:

This would motivate players to try and save their pilots in case their plane is about to crash and give them little bonus for doing so. And bigger helis should be able to save more pilots.

nice and maybe gen4 ir missiles can ignore the dircm system on helicopters. Or at least they should have a cooldown time

@BVV_d Mr. BVVD, does Nuclear Thunder have more naval warfare plans? Project 956 and the Virginia-class were added as AI units in recent versions, so is there a chance to add more modern and advanced warships? War Thunder added two nuclear submarines capable of launching nuclear missiles and controllable torpedoes in the 2018 April Fools event. Is there a chance in the future to add these two submarines to Nuclear Thunder as new nuclear strike platforms, rather than being limited to dropping nuclear bombs only with aircraft? Also, in coastal naval battles, the Project 143 attack boat already has missile launch racks, but we can’t use them. In recent versions, many aircraft have received a lot of additional anti-ship missile models, so is there a chance to make the Project 143’s missiles usable in Nuclear Thunder? This way, naval battles could have much richer gameplay and also serve to test mechanics for future new vehicles.

same goes for FnF missile in Heli PvE too, so many people has been frustrated on grinding there when these guys just stealing kills unnecessarily more than 300-400 points every 10 minutes

Gunship III, goated mobile game (now they have IV with Iraq map)

but yes pilot evac would be amazing too
and we already have the likes of UH-60M, countless Mi-24/35, Mi-8, UH-1, Lynx, AH-6M (copius amount of cag larping) (and Z-20T for China too (still not here apparently) so this actually could be done, plus there is helipad capture mechanic in Heli PvE so that could be repurpose into pilot extraction too

or for some extremites even AH-64 in 2 ways

LOL YES, I completely agree with this, I tried nuclear escalation yesterday for the first time since the April fools event and was shot down by and S300 within a minute of takeoff. I couldn’t defend because I had no time to react and multipathing is barely an option because of the trees.

We can’t really effectively practice too because it costs 11k SL to spawn and the ADATS and Gepard on the test drive are lackluster to say the least.

usually I am against removing enemy player tags on general ARB but for heli case yes!

or make it only visible between enemy helis but not enemy jets, it’ll be annoying if helis keep being disrupted by jets, especially if ally team not in favor on assisting air superiority

and on enemy side the only way to pinpoint an enemy helicopter is using auto tracker and radio attention command when ran out of ammo

Love all the news about new upcoming content for the mode. Generally speaking, I think Nuclear Escalation has been the single best thing added to the game ever since its creation, and I don’t think its particularly close.

That being said, I do have some pointers and things needing addressing in my opinion.

1. 13.7+ BR bracket needs its own unique set of AI units:

Spoiler

At the moment, the “top tier” AI units can be seen starting at BR ~11.7+ if I remember correctly, where corresponding airborne weaponry is relatively restricted by seeker quality, sensor target acquisition capability, munition range, and munition quantity. Think early PD radars, early TGP’s (if any), maximums of 6x AGM-65 Maverick missiles, etc…

Even around the 13.0 range, where many premium players play, ground strike options remain relatively constrained. A handful of AGM-65’s, some laser guided bombs, Kh-29 variants, and either wideband “shorter” ranged ARM’s like AGM-88A, or long range narrow band ARM’s like Kh-31P variants, subsonic cruise missiles like the YJ-88A’s. Munition qualities/quantities that can’t easily overmatch all AA systems in the game mode with relative ease, or on aircrafts that lack the flight model, such as the Su-25’s, and A-10C. Frontline SHORAD like the ItO remain a threat, long range systems like S-300 and SAMP/T remain a major strategic asset worth striking, and conversely, defending, and generally require nukes to clear reliably.

Then you hit ~13.7 and the entire gamemodes design and balance is destroyed. Aircrafts like the late american teen series variants (F-15E, F-16C/D, F/A-18E/F) come loaded with GBU-53 stormbreakers and AGM-154A1 JSOW which can almost completely bypass all air defense, wipe out large groups of ground vehicles, and can be dropped from ranges that make the long range SAM’s a total non-factor. ARM’s that can clear any GBAD sites like the AGM-88G are added, which can hit any long range AA from anywhere on the map reliably, and are immune to radar shutoff which was initially added to restrict how broken the Kh-31PD was when first added. Jets with ARM quantities to brute force any SAM sites, such as the Chinese J-15T/J-16 come into play as well, leading to the complete collapse of the long range air defense network within the first 10-15min of most matches, making them functionally irrelevant.

Then, AESA radars and GNSS seeker ARH missiles onboard jets flying up at 10km altitude begin raining down on players trying to take off anywhere on the map. Ground strike can’t be done much anymore because of this. Nuke runs on airfields become nearly impossible, dragging the game out, and the 5kt nuke becomes functionally irrelevant in the face of jets carrying 10+ F&F munitions. The game drags on due to the chokehold high alt jets with large missile quantities have on the mode, seeing as all air defense meant to restrict them is either not capable enough to threaten them, or no longer alive to even fire at them anyways.

Much better systems should be seen from BR’s 13.7+. Provide long range AA sites with multiple self defense systems, things like C-RAM, CS/SA-5, Pantsir SM-SV, etc… something to weather atleast 1-2 players worth of simultaneous munition launches, and increase the capability of said sites, either with later S-300 variants, properly modelled Aster-30’s, more TEL’s, etc… Its silly that the same systems we fight with a handful of early AGM-65’s and early ARM’s, are seen trying to defend vs jets with 20+ GBU-53’s or munitions so new, they arent even in service in real life (AGM-88G).

2. High value targets need a reward rework that matches the time/effort required to destroy them.

Spoiler

At the the moment, most, if not all AI ground targets provide the same reward to players. An ItO, or an S-300 radar is equivalent in value to an MBT, which is itself equivalent to a IFV. This is nonsensical. A SAM system generally requires specialized munitions (F&F/GPS/ARM), as well as a sufficient quantity (2x AGM-88C for 1x 2s6 kill for example) to kill. Long range air defense sites like the S-300’s and SAMP/T tend to require even more, often requiring 2+ sorties to kill IF you have the correct munitions AND everything goes according to plan. Baring that, tactical nukes are required. Conversely, MBT’s and SPG’s, etc… cannot fight back, and IFV’s can, but only within ~2km of themselves. They are also unable to intercept incoming munitions. SAM vehicles should have 2-3x the reward value of things like MBT’s.

Ships are somewhat even more egregious. Yes, AShM’s generally can allow a player to destroy ships from relative safety, and many of the ships appear to have limited ability to intercept any AShM in the first place, but it still requires quite a few hits to sink a carrier, a major time investment. The midline DDG’s (California/Sovremeny) are the strongest naval AA systems currently in-game, and give you almost no rewards at all, and the frontline BLUFOR boats (Lutjens) take a fraction of the munitions to kill compared to a CV, yet have comparable rewards???

3. PLEASE bring the mode to air simulation!!!

Air sim has long been stagnant, with no new maps in 4 years, and broken objectives. Many sim players have been begging for something like Nuclear Thunder, or even objectives like those seen in Nuclear Thunder to be added to their old maps. I know the player base is small while the Nuclear Escalation is likely costly server-wise, but even just having a handful of Nuclear Escalation matches going for air sim at a time would be a massive improvement, and would likely bring many players and interest back to the mode.

Nuclear Escalation aside, the news about LDIRCM finally being modelled more correctly is some fantastic news. The LDIRCM helis have been one of the worst additions in the history of the game, and are blatantly unfun to play against, being largely immune to most weapons they face, and totally immune to IR missiles was a horrendous game design decision. Im glad to hear that chapter in the games history will hopefully be behind us soon.

A final question though, is there any plans to explore a Nuclear Escalation-like mode for ground battles? One with set objectives for teams to attack/defend, and larger maps to play and navigate on? I know many players that have been hoping for maps to let top tier ground vehicles actually stretch their legs on while allowing players to play a bit more strategically then the current simplistic ground game modes :)

There is the AGM-114R-4 which replaces the motor with one that allows it to go up to 34km.

Theres no way thats a real thing lmao. Imagine using that to launch a marine at someone like a torpedo lol.

…which is no surprise, considering the lack of development in Sim over the years.

Yes, the sim community is small, but we’re persistent enough to still be here, and would be exhilarated about any improvement or addition to the mode.

I can’t of course claim that new people would rush to Sim if it got an improvement (like the proposed Sim NE), but I’m very confident it would increase the sim community quite significantly.

How so and how is that an issue that should hinder a Sim-mode NE?

I love the idea of these changes and additions. Heli’s and resupply being modeled would be AMAZING.

A little off topic but kinda related I wish I could stock grind my F-102 in the mode in the proper colored camo scheme :(

Community Bug Reporting System - it’s really depressing. I was really looking forward to this skin only to find on launch day it was wrong ;-;

They literally made trees smaller and carved out big chunks of them on roads and such so you can now touch the ground easilly. Wdym

great update, but please add more modern ships for top tier, the current naval elements in game is cold-war ships and are easy picking for modern anti-ship missiles, it would be great if you could add the Arleigh burke DDG and the Adm. Gorshkov for fleet defense so the carriers will not quickly get taken out.

The carriers should also be considered a base that needed to be destroyed in order to win like those airfields, also add some gunboats that fight in the middle of the sea.
