A serious question for France players (and players in general)

I have been making YT video’s for a little bit now on new vehicles that could be added to War Thunder, and how said vehicles/nations should be added, and I’ve noticed people seem fairly devided on what the philosophy behind this should be, in particular when it comes to sub-trees. Some people think that sub-trees should get vehicles that fill up the tech tree more, and make the larger tech-tree more viable overall. Others believe sub-trees should go where they historically make sense, and fit both nations in question.

What I want to gather with this post is if more people care for historical accuracy and uniqueness or competitive viability, in terms of new content/vehicles, of which France just got a great example of.

Which addition to the tech-tree did you France players like more?

  1. The Dutch Leo’s
Being very competitive and strong, but not related to France or French tank development in the slightest, as well being full copy-pastes from a different tree

  2. The MSC
A tank that kinda filled up a gap in the tree, but for the rest didn’t really bring much new to the table, but is fully French

For non-France players the same question: do you enjoy more competitive additions that make tech-trees more viable, or less good but way more unique vehicles?

[What type of new vehicles do you like/would you want to see more?]
  • Competitive, but less unique/historical
  • Less viable, but more unique and fitting to the nation
  • Other

I’m not a french main by any means (I main UK, Germany and Japan with USSR and Israel as my “secondary mains”) but I can say that I prefer the unique additions.

When I grinded out the M44 for the UK tree, it was alright, nothing special. Then I had to do it twice again for my other two mains. It was an unnecessary obstacle to get additional carbon copies of a vehicle I didn’t really have an opinion on.

I’d much rather the resources go to modeling new vehicles, even if they are just slight mods that have some change to performance. Both in gameplay and in documentation.

I’m fine with copy paste as long as it’s just to full gaps that can’t be filled otherwise.

(Also Benelux was really sad, air is mediocre with a modified gladiator, the G.IA, a few variants of UK planes that the UK doesn’t have iirc, the modified mirage, and the F-16 with magics. Ground is even worse as it seems there’s not one unique ground vehicle when there are plenty of options. Also not a single naval addition when Belgium and the Netherlands have quite a few unique and viable ones is very disappointing.)

I’m always for variety, so for France specifically I’d like to see more Leclercs and other domestic vehicles. Every nation should have it’s own flavor, which makes grinding less of a chore.

Copy paste vehicles have their pros though, especially in minor nations so Gaijin can gauge the average skill levels between nations.

The Leclerc MSC was the best addition for France in the last updates lately, a solid vehicle to build a decent line-up. Something we could get more was light tanks, but we got the BeNeLux ground vehicles, worthless addition just to add more research time to the game locking truly good vehicles behind extra research points.

I’m fully in for BeNeLux ground vehicles but if they’re unique, if they’re just copy and paste additions I’ll oppose to this addition. If Gaijin initially planned to add BeNeLux just around Leopards, then it could’ve gone to Germany with no problems at all.

It’s really sad that we’ve come to oppose sub-tree vehicles to unique vehicles in many cases.
Subtrees would be a great way to add a few fresh and unique vehicles from smaller nations, but instead it’s now a cheap way to add a bunch of copy paste with MAYBE one or two unique stuff sprinkled in.
Honestly i don’t even see the ROI in that, at this point just add one unique premium at a time it’d be better.

This. While South Africa gave several unique stuff and Finland provided Sweden with needed backup (albeit missing out several domestic vehicles), most the other subtrees have major issues.

Hungarian ground low tier is actually pretty good although still missing some staples like the Nimrod. The issue is that none of the air or cold war ground is actually unique to Hungary (Except the Leo 2 and Kf41 iirc).

Benelux, while giving the G.1A and some modified aircraft (or British variants of British planes not in the UK tree iirc) has no unique ground forces or even the Luxembourgisb Heli.

Switzerland did give a modified mirage 3 and the C-3604 but now has barely any room for it’s ground forces.

India and Romania are relegated to event or premium fodder, barring copy paste soviet sams and a unique SM.79 variant.

Also none of the subtrees actually have a naval addition which is incredibly odd.

BeNeLux was not a good addition to France imo

we got copy paste, if i wanted leos, i’d have grinded Germany

options for additional vehicles do exist for France :

  • EBRC jaguar
  • AMX-10 RCR (more side armor, IRCM jammer)
  • Leclerc prototypes (MSC was a step in the right direction)
  • the Sagaie family
  • AMX-13 DCA for SPAA
  • VBCI 40mm CTA prototypes
  • Leclerc XLR

From a pure french pov, the only good thing is the potential copy paste of EBRC in the future, due to their presence in Belgium and Luxembourg

Trees are supposed to be unique, and copy pasting Leopard doesn’t go in the right direction.

Sure a bit of copy paste to fill some gaps at some Brs, why not, but the Leopards (2A5NL and 2A6NL especially) don’t really fill any gap

I’m also not a german main but it would slightly piss me off seing my main MBT distributed left right and centre

I would not have minded it so much if at least the Netherlands got attached to Germany and Belgium + Luxembourg to France, because at least they mainly have original or french bought vehicles, so it makes more sense
