The first mass-produced jet fighter built in Italy, the G.91, made its maiden flight on August 9th 1956. It became a symbol of the resurgence of Italian military aviation following the Second World War. In addition to the Italian Air Force, the G.91 served with the West German Luftwaffe and the Portuguese Air Force. It remained in service for a full 34 years from 1961 to 1995!
