National Airborne Day was established in 2002 to honor the first parachute landing of the United States Army on August 16th, 1940. American paratroopers received their baptism of fire in November 1942 on the North African front, and their contribution to the Allied victory on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge is difficult to overestimate.

About this helicopter
- The UH-1C XM-30 features 30 mm XM140 cannons. It can also take a 40 mm M75 grenade launcher, a 7.62 mm M134 machine gun, BGM-71C Improved TOW ATGMs and FFAR Mighty Mouse rockets into battle. This is a pretty solid arsenal for this type of helicopter, giving it the ability to handle many situations while in battle.
