To summarize a player reported that on the dev server you cannot carry 6 mavericks along with a targeting. He provided real life photographs to show that this is not historically accurate. To describe the picture, it shows the A10 carrying 6 inert warhead mavericks along with the targeting pod
In response, an employee (WestlanD_BrO), pointed out that the Maverick’s motor is inert. So in a combat situation, Mavericks loaded on the LAU-88 cannot be hung next to the targetting pod in order to avoid damaging the optics by the maverick’s motor flame (when launched).
I find this a bit odd because having inert weaponry doesn’t mean that the loadout itself is inaccurate. Inert weaponry is a simulation of the real thing and is often used for training. So why would A-10C train with this loadout if it cannot be used in a combat scenarios?
I can’t seem to find any information on this, and the photographs (A10 carrying 6 mavs + target pod) I did see either have inert warheads, or doesn’t show the mavericks entirely to determine if the motor is inert or not. Thus, I can’t come to a solid conclusion
If you have any documentation & knowledge that answers this question, I would love to see it.
I will counter that with the Sniper pod being tested with the LAU-88 next to it and was successful with no issues. That being said we are not getting the sniper pod we are getting the litening II.
The thing with this is that I believe it only refers to the closest AGM-65 right next to the targeting pod, as the AGM-65G can be loaded on the LAU-117 pylon next to the targeting pod (there is no specific mention that it can’t be done), and the AGM-65s on the bottom and left side of the LAU-88 pylon are much further spaced than the AGM-65G on the LAU-117.
Thanks. Out of curiosity, how did you find this information in the first place? I’ve always had trouble looking for sources and feels like I’m throwing a bunch of darts and see if they stick.
Anyways, there was a bug report (Community Bug Reporting System) made however it was denied but his reasoning didn’t really answer the bug report.
Why are these new laser-guided Hydras missing the target? I’m designating the target through the Litening pod, the nose of the plane is pointed at the target, but the missile flies off in some random direction.
