They should raise its battle rating to 8.7 and give it DTW2-100, making it an equivalent to the Finnish T-55M.
Its a fast MBT with a LRF, good APDS, and a two plane stabiliser. Compare that to anything else at 8.3 and you will smoke them.

The problem though is that if you add APFSDS to the Type 69-IIA is it’ll probably go up in battle rating since it’s already at the same battle rating as the T-55A with 3BM25, so you might as well give it a better round and make it equivalent to an already existing T-55M. It’d be either a better T-55A or a worse T-55M at the same battle rating if you give it Type 59 APFSDS.
Based on my simple calculations, the Type 59 APFSDS’s penetration capability is slightly inferior to that of the 3BM24. However, the Type 69IIA is equipped with a laser rangefinder compared to the T55A, so I believe there is no need to adjust its Battle Rating (BR)

Its fire control is slightly better than that of the 59A, but its firepower is the same. Compared to the T55A, it has a laser rangefinder but its firepower is 0.3BR lower, only at the 8.0 level. Moreover, the Type 59 APDS is worse than the 3BM8

I believe that the 3BM24 horizontal APFSDS with 8.3BR (which may be even worse) will not affect the balance
The T-55 also has the same firepower as the Type 59. The only reason it’s higher is because of the full stabilization and 3BM25. The same things the 69-IIA would have if it got Type 59 APFSDS. Ultimately though, we’re talking about something neither of us can control. Gaijin hates adding new ammunition or updating it on already existing vehicles. Otherwise the VT5 would have BTA2 for instance. I’m fine with the Type 69-IIA getting any attention either way, because I’d agree with your original post, it feels a little awkward in its current state, and struggles heavily in uptiers.

You just need to give it the Type 59 APFSDS, which is equivalent to the 3BM25; the DTW2-100 is a licensed shell of the M1000A1. With the Type 59, it can stay at its current BR, I would prefer it to stay on 8.3 with a decent APFSDS than on 9.0 with a better APFSDS. The Type 69IIA will simply be a T-55A with a laser rangefinder and a 3-degree faster turret rotation.
